Aliens: Colonial Marines

Amazon has the base game on sale for, like, $5 right now, with the Season Pass for $15 or so. For $20, you could get the whole shebang. I'm curious as to whether it's worth it, though, given the reams of bad press the game got when it first came out.

I'm also unlikely to play it multiplayer, so there's a question for me of how worth it the game is for the SP experience. Anyone got any thoughts on the subject?

It's not worth it. Simply put if you're a fan of the film, then you really should stay away from this game. Gearbox couldn't have screwed it up more even if they tried.

They took money they got from SEGA and used it not for Colonial Marines but instead for Borderlands 2. The game was half-***ed made by at least three different companies.

I mean, the thing is, there *are* decent bits. The level where you're unarmed is good, as is a scene with a captured queen. But overall, it is really bad. For five bucks though, I say go for it.

Just don't come complaining to us WHEN you want to kill your AI buddies that always get in the way and do little to nothing to help you :lol
Getting paid 5 bucks a second for playing the game wouldn't even make it worth playing.

Watch this, good times ;)

oh and later they released a FOUR GIGABYTE patch, indeed 4GB... basically a whole game. Did it fix everything? NOPE, not even half of the issues :facepalm
Nice little review:
He's very wrong when he says no one was looking forward to the game more than him, and then goes on to say he thought it had been canceled(it was put on hold, which people on the official forum knew) :p

I actually haven't had any issues with the AI, i think they fixed it with one of the patches. I agree Gearbox messed up and they seriously shouldn't even be open. This should have killed the company as they hurt this franchise and the Duke nukem one in favor of their Borderlands franchise. I would have loved to seen Visceral put their Dead Space experience to work with the Aliens franchise. On that note i've been having more fun with the extras i got in the special edition then the game as i got tired of the unarmed level and dying ever 2 minutes.

Well, look at it this way. If you go looking at lists or videos about the "worst games of 2013", or "biggest disappointments of 2013", or something along those lines... this game is on every single one of them. I have yet to watch a video talking about bad things that happened in the game industry in 2013 that hasn't mentioned this game.

For a brainless shooter it's not bad but no way i'd have ever paid full price. It's like Duke Nukem Forever: great extras in the special edition (apparently the only thing gearbox does right) but horrid game. I'm amazed this thing didn't raise a Mass effect 3 level stink among gamers. i mean it was blatant false advertising in the trailers they showed where they claimed it was gameplay but wasn't.

Although they didn't make Duke Nukem ;) they along with Piranha Games simply finished i after 3D Realms closed their doors. So not exactly their fault.
Don't even bring up Mass Effect 3 :(

It just seems that unless it's their own property gearbox seems to have nothing but trouble. I'm amazed that EA and them are even putting out a new Dragon age this year after how bad the 2nd one was received. It being EA there'll be mandatory online and no single player storyline.

I said it before, I think in this very thread, but I bought this game for full price on the day it was released and I enjoyed it. Was it the best shooter ever? Nope. I played the hell out of it looking for all the easter eggs and achievements and never felt I got robbed. So I think that makes like 5 people world wide who enjoyed it. :p

I think all the updates helped alot because i haven't really had an of the AI issues that i saw on alot of vids. Mind you most of the aliens are dumber than rocks but the AI partner isn't too bad. Though he did keep running ahead before i was ready.

Frankly Gearbox needs to go away, they're a great example of what's wrong with the industry these days when it comes to smaller companies. We think of EA as being the badguys but the developers can be just as bad as the publishers. They dropped the ball with this game, with Duke Nukem (i doubt it was salvageable but still), and the Borderland games show they're a one trick pony. Any judge that gives in and dismisses the lawsuit should lose their seat at the bench as it's clear that box sega and Gearbox knew the final game would look nothing like the previews and still presented them as such and there's tons of proof.

I can't wait for Isolation. Here's hopping it puts Alien games back in thier place.
