What type of helmet did they use in the movie? Is it a WW2 helmet? Thanks for any help

Yup, the helmet was based on an M1 Steel Pot. Terry English modified the helmets to have a front strike plate, an ear defender, a camera and the lobster plates.

You're probably better off looking for the Vietnam era helmets. WW2 ones are rare and expensive and you really don't want to be cutting holes in them.

The Vietnam steel pot helmets are pretty common and cheap a surplus stores and gun shiws
