Ahsoka Tano - Revisting my Daughter's Costume

Taking some tips from a few members here I went back and tweaked the sculpt even more. I tapered the back tail, lengthened it, beefed up the sides of the tail and made the two tentacles a bit pointier. I'm ready to call this a done deal at this point.

Molding and casting supplies are being purchased tomorrow from Smooth On. I can't wait to see the first piece!

The final sculpt looks awesome, all those little refinements really made a difference.

Any chance you could post detail pictures of your daughter's wrist guards and boot covers? I'm interested in seeing how you did the buckles/straps and the overall shape of them. Were you going to remake any of the other parts or just the headpiece?

Whoa, looks great now! Very nice job Webchief! Make sure to take pics during casting / molding / painting as well!

Thanks! I'm much happier with the look.

I'll post pics of her old costume parts in a bit. They were okay but keep in mind were just a kid's costume. I DO plan on upgrading most of the costume parts for C5 though. As I do, I'll post progress pics.

I have to say that this looked amazing in person, you did a really good job on the sculpt. I cannot wait to see how the final product ends up looking.

So, because I can never just leave well enough alone, I made some more changes to the sculpt last night. A friend came by this past weekend who will be purchasing one of the castings. I was able to hold it up side by side with her face and could see that the tendrils simply weren't long enough. I've lengthened them and well as slimmed them out a bit and now I'm finally ready to let go. Before I start the molding process I'll give it one final smoothing out.

Looks like the lengthening worked out better. I can't wait to see it done!

On our way out of your area we stopped for breakfast and I saw a woman wearing the boots pictured below. I thought they'd make good Ahsoka boots so I asked her what the brand was. They're Michael Kors 'Blizzard'. Probably not the best for your daughter since her feet will probably grow more and the boots are over $100 on Ebay. Still, I think I might make them work for my costume.

Ahsokas boots are square toed btw, just sharing LOL having built this costume once and now looking at WC's headpiece.

Are you open for one more critique Bob or are you just ready to mold that badboy?

I'm not that worried about them being square toed. That's pretty low on my list of priorities for this costume. Thanks for the tip though.

Oohhhhh lookie lookie....it's Chase...... ;-)

Hey WC! What are you doing your mold out of?

Kinda curious as to how you're going to split it up. I'm a few days away still on mine, but I keep looking at that sucker and thinking "well, how the heck am I going to do that?" I'll be going with the plaster mold, and I think it will have to be 3 pieces at least.

Chase, I'm always open for some constructive criticism. However, I'm going to mold on this in the next day or so, so unless you get it here quick, I might not be able to wait. :)

Natasha, those boots look pretty cool! You're right though, I'm not buying $100 boots for my daughter. She'll grow out of them in a few months. hahaha I knew about the square toe too but couldn't find anything remotely close for an 11 year old kid.

Chris, I'm using one of Smooth-On's products. I don't have it in front of me right now so I forget the exact name but it's not plaster. It's a two part mix that comes out ultra-light. The reps at Smooth-On convinced me to go this way. I was originally going to go with a Rebound 25 mold but they didn't feel it'd work well for this. He also told me to go with a three part mold. One for the face and splitting the back down the middle. Hope that helps!

The only critique I have is the two colored lines I show here. The sides of the headpiece look a little thick. Its your call tho, I would be satisfied with or without that modification. Just my 2 cents.

I like it the way it is... I think too much focus on symmetry and you lose some uniquenes...sorta like the MR CE Stormtrooper helmet. IMHO.

For clarification, I drew the line on one side but it's meant for both sides. They seem thick to me. Sorry I didn't clarify it, but as I said if WC is cool with it, it's his baby.

Yeah, I'm cool with it as is. Sliming that edge at this point would be pretty tough given the fact that the clay is drying out. It needs to get molded.
