Aging and Discoloring Silver Pewter

I have a silver pewter item that I want to age, tarnish, and turn it a bronze color. I have heard of chemical baths and plating but who would do that in their kitchen sink.

Are there any non-toxic / non-carcenogenic methods that can be used?
