Adult Amazing Spider-Man 2 (by Disguise) costume review

Hey fellas,

The only reviews I've seen for the officially licensed costume are on amazon. This is the $200 adult version, with molded plastic lenses and rubber web shooters. Since it's too close to Halloween to even consider a suit commission, I decided to give this a shot. When it arrived, it came in a very nice plastic case with a zipper and hanger. The mask was put in a seperate plastic pocket within the plastic covering. The webbing on the suit is slightly raised, the amazon reviews said it was latex webbing but in my opinion it looked and felt more like some kind of nylon material that was glued onto the spandex suit. The spider on the front is some kind of vinyl, very shiny. The spider emblem on the back of the suit is also vinyl but It's made more durable somehow (probably because of the zipper). you WILL need help zipping this suit up. The mask does come seperate, and the suit zips up to the base of your neck. The footies are a little baggy, I'm going to try the glue-shoe-sole method that people have done with the custom spidey suits. The bodysuit itself fits very nice, I'm 6'1 155lbs and a pretty thin guy so I ordered a medium.

I've read the reviews on the mask on amazon, that it was VERY tight and the plastic lenses have zero padding, which when compressed to your face is very uncomfortable. And they were correct. The plastic lenses are attached like sunglasses to one another (a plastic bar that runs across the bridge of your nose) and they are also VERY hard to see out of. Maybe I'll try to use my dremel and cut the plastic bar off since the lenses are glued onto the mask itself, as well as glue a foamie base around the lenses on the inside for comfortable issues. The reviews also said that they heard threads start to break/pop when putting the mask on and off, I would have to say that I'm pretty positive it was the glued on raised webbing. The mask stretches around your heads and the raised webbing is glued on, it starts to "pop" after being stretched over your noggin'. So I'm not worried about the mask falling apart.

I'd give this suit a 7/10. I'll post pictures when I get home from work.

Yes yes, today for sure. Apologies, been pulling double shifts the past few days due to training (recertification purposes). I'll take pics of EVERYTHING, especially the problamatic areas.

Here are the pics:

Here's the bodysuit that came with the plastic case w/hanger:

Rubber web shooters that are attached to the suit:

The front of the suit with the vinyl emblem, you can see the brick pattern on the suit pretty good here:

The back of the suit, the back emblem is made of vinyl too but it seems more durable:

The mask, it has molded plastic lenses with white mesh. The nose holes are a bit of a distraction, there is a white cloth underneath to hide your nose but the problem is that it's white LOL. It looks odd when you put it on. I painted mine red after I took the pics:

And here's the inside of the mask, here's the hard plastic nose bridge I was talking about. It hurts. The rest of the lenses are glued AND screwed into the mask:

I'll take a few tonight with me wearing the full suit (front and back) so you guys can see. The footies are a little loose/baggy (they have grips on the bottom like the morph suits) so I would suggest modifying them like the custom spidey suits with soles/shoes. It's tight in the "protruding" areas LOL.

That's a pretty good looking suit! I take it the red and blue portions are separate pieces (sewn together, are those seam lines)? Webshooters aren't too shabby either!

Those lens frames look very screen accurate, would a recast or anything similar be worth doing?

I just received this costume in the mail. It looks like it needs quite a bit of modifying. Not impressed with the painted honeycomb on the lenses. I'll probably redo the lenses with strainer mesh and see if I can remove the paint.

Just got mine today too, I was thinking the same thing. Gonna see if my local seamstress can add a zipper to the back of the mask so I can use my TJack shell. All in all though, I found it to be surprisingly nice....DAMN NOSEHOLES...... If I can get a swatch from somewhere on the back of the hood( where it tucks in) I'd like to put it underneath the damn holes.
