Active projects/Group Builds

I'm curious where we stand on this topic with regard to group builds and active projects on the RPF.

From time to time a given prop could be offered for much less provided the would-be owner wanted to finish the item off themselves.

I'm thinking something along the lines of a group build-out w/ video updates, group discussion, that sort fo thing.

It would be fun! The question is, how would we approach such a thing in keeping with the current guidelines?

Just spit balling.

Thoughts?

The old days of the rpf were more fun with active projects and group builds. Very good things can be said about Icons, MR, et al, but their advent has definitely taken some element of involvement out of prop creation/collecting.

Sounds like a good idea. Depends on the prop. I for one am not much for buying the finished product. I always like to finish it myself.

I agree and miss the group builds. Just trying to figure out a clean way of doing it.

I would say that it's not so much the presence of mr or efx or qmx as it is the flood of board members onto the rpf who are collectors and not prop builders. Back in the day, the rpf generally consisted of members who built what they wanted themselves and worked with each other symbiotically to produce something for everyone's collection. But now a days, most members here seem to want to buy everything in their collection fully built and polished and ready for their shelves.

Oh, yeah and also, active projects die when Dave posts in the thread :) LOL

Yeah, perhaps. But, there are indeed numerous guys who enjoy complex builds. The model forum is full of them and people ask me for pieces in kit form all the time. I just have no place to hang the directions!:lol

We used to share everything from finishing ideas to paint codes when we'd all obsess on the same build.

I kinda miss that.
