Done / Completed Accurate BTTF Marty McFly Denim Guess Jacket

I recently was fortunate enough to obtain the same style of jacket used by the production of Back to the Future in the wrong color, which you can see here:

I’ve already meticulously measured this to create a 1-to-1 pattern and am in talks with a cut and sew shop to both grade the pattern from XS-XXL as well as to make some small number of these in the proper colors.

There are features of this jacket that have just never been matched before in a replica and I want to fix that once and for all.

The pricing is highly dependent on how many people are interested, but we’d be looking in the $500-750 range most likely due to the small run nature of this.

If interested, let me know your size as that will help prioritize the development of other pattern grades.

Interest list:

1) Me!
2) Zaneydevlin (IG)
3) DylanPrescott_ (IG)
4) Thosemortalmen
5)
6)
I would like to make you an offer on THIS jacket.

Nick's very frequently active on his socials, and he was focusing on NYCC not too long ago, with other costumes talking priority.

On Nick's (OP) original video on the jacket from TikTok, Guess seemed to of gained interest in the project and actually replied to the video saying "Back To The Future #2022". Does this mean anything? Who knows, but considering Guess has never really directly acknowledged to jacket like this, it's nice to think something might happen.

So, currently he has got everyone to mention Guess to increase interest and the chances of a genuine Guess recreation of the jacket to happen, and is also open to the possibility of working with Guess to get the jacket just right.

do you think guess would if they made it by themselves make a more accurate jacket then other smaller fan ran companies have ? or just make something for a bit of attention that isn't that accurate as I think some fans would put more effort into it then guess would.

Still working on it (more than ever actually) but I’ll start a new interest thread when there is more to show.

I’ve made some new discoveries about this jacket recently (like in the last 2 weeks) so want to make sure I get everything right.
just looking at the jacket I noticed two things different to the back to the future jacket in terms of actual jacket pattern. ( you may of / probably already have spotted these but still just in case )

1st thing is it has an extra waist band ( spotted this one after looking at research done by sinister 80s I think it was )

2nd thing is the top button on the collar looks like it should be down a bit more about where this red dot I drew is ( most replicas get this wrong from what I've seen )

again you probably already noticed these differences on your jacket but just in case you hadn't I hope this helps.

hopefully you get the chance to finish making these into a small run of replicas. If you do I would love to get one In small or medium

Nick already knows about these I'm sure, but it's interesting the amount of variations in jackets there are for the limited run they had.

All these jackets apart from the Mexican ones were also sold as vests.

Original 1984 jacket #1 - Two sections on waistband, blank buttons with dent in the middle, motorbike Guess liner. These jackets are the ones modified for BTTF. Originally sold in California.

Jacket #2 to #4 are all very similar and only have small differences during transitions to each new version.

Jacket #2 - Same as above, but 3 sectioned waistband.

Jacket #3 - Same as jacket #2, but now with GUESS liner instead of motorbike liner. Also had a full blue denim version.

Jacket #4 - Same as #3, but with detailed Guess buttons (Nick's jacket).

Jacket #5 - Finally, the late 80s Mexican made jacket. Still unsure if it was an official Guess product, but after finding other Marciano products made in Mexico I'm leading to it being real now. I originally thought there was two different jackets with in this style, but they are actually all Mexican ones. Big differences on this jacket.

Guess liner, detailed guess buttons, no waistband sections, slimmer pockets, no triangle guess logo and instead different rectangle logo above pocket, different shade of grey and blue, and S M L (youth) sizing. mattsf2003 owned this jacket as a kid (image below) and was originally purchased in early 1986. I theorise these jackets may have even been made due to the success of BTTF, since they only came in this colour. Only sold in Mexican Guess outlets.

oh yeah I was 90% sure he did , ( the collar button I don't think is as commonly know but he probably still knew that too )

just thought I'd mention them just in case ( I'm no expert but they where the two things I noticed )

also how did you find out the original had the motorbike on it and any idea why that box is blacked out in the photo with Michael j fox holding the jacket open?

The two sectioned waistband only comes with the motorbike liner, and since the movie was filmed in 1984 that was the original and only version of the jacket available.

The black box is there because it's a photo from the Tean Beat magazine where text was.

Sinister80s, where did this jacket picture come from? I’ve never seen it before. It has the paisley liner. Not sure about it having the Hollywood. And it still has the Guess patch which leads me to believe this is an altered jacket owned by a collector.

It's the jacket at the Hollywood museum, exact same jacket as the first image in that post. It's an unmodified original jacket, the Paisley is just tucked over the original liner.

Sinister80s, do we know if the buttons on the 1984 jacket have that distinct shape from being manufactured like that or from the pressure of the attachment process? I’ve used manual presses for similar applications.

Do you think it’s possible to replicate this feature?

Seems to be a staple of Guess. I’ve seen on other jackets of theirs.
Yeah, although I only think they did it for around a year or two since my 1983 jacket has the same buttons but without the dent, and by around mid-1985 most jackets had the Guess branded buttons.
Do you think it’s possible to replicate this feature?
I'm sure it can be done. Headgoonie was able to do it on their 2020 and 2023 jackets, although their dent was smaller and deeper.

Just how Selex brand snaps look when pressed.

That said. We should move this conversation to the main forum and out of the JY.
