A Monumental Propping Moment for Me

Well,

What can I possibly say ? Today, my journey has come full circle. Today, I received my Star Trek Maroon Officer's uniform made from all the original threads and materials.

Everyone has that one piece they have been looking for since they were a kid. For me, I am NOT a Trekker, but Star Trek II was in fact the first movie my dad ever took me to with ESB playing across the way. I barely remember the movie, but I remember just how heroic these figures were and when I first fell in love with the imagery of the maroon outfit.

Some years later, I even purchased my first what was thought to be a Star Trek maroon suit from Star Log magazine...to find out it was nothing more than the Lincoln patterns (hey, I was 9, how could I have known better)...Regardless, I learned how to sew because of this pattern with hell bent fury to make my first maroon. It was a felt (yes, felt) disaster but to my over active imagination it was enough and stayed with for years to follow (until I couldn't fit in it). Again, I am not a trekker and couldn't tell you what happened on DS9 or Voyager...but this suit was iconic to me for many many many years.

Fast forward to now and my quest to have recreated the perfect maroon officer was just as fiery as ever. I found the perfect sewer with the right skill, the original fabric...etc. etc. ....Then "Its a Wrap" auctions came along the realization set in : I am old enough, have enough money....and is certainly a plausible notion - to OWN an original, screen used maroon.

The idea was as exciting as frightening realizing that there are so few out there and prices keep soaring...then a friend stepped in and agreed to sell his to me for a great price. I will let him speak on his own behalf if he cares to reveal himself, but many of you know his collection and will probably figure out.

This is a Screen Used Star Trek VII Maroon outfit and was also used by Tuvok (Tim Russ) during the "Flashback" episode in Voyager (made famous by Captain Sulu's guest appearance)

Anyhow, today I received my uniform and years of searching and excitement was overwhelming. Today, I told my wife that if any prop were to be rescued from my collection, it would be that one for so many reasons past its monetary value.

Finally, I had to. I had to find out...I had to try it on - then nothing short of a miracle happened...it said "Shatner" inside .....no, just kidding, but the next best thing, it fit like a glove. I have had many suits made for me and am very particular about my dress shirts fitting. I am one of those bastards who pays more to have a shirt tailored to specifically fit me and know the differences between a European, french, American cut...etc. This suit fit me as if it was MADE for me...shoulders line up, the cuff lined up (and I have long arms!)...the snug was perfect.

To say this was a perfect transaction is an understatement. Without ado, I would like to finally share some pictures with everyone here :

Definitely looks good.

Any idea which movie it's from? I'm thinking Generations as they had a longer cut to them as opposed to the earlier patterns...

Wow, nice, mate!

But I have one request: could you PLEASE put more detailed shots up, especially of seamlines, the jacket's interior and in "opened up" form? The reason I'm asking is that, coincidentally, I just bought a pattern for that very same jacket on ebay.
Not to get it made into a ST uniform, but because with some minor modifications (breast flap, breast pockets, collar) the pattern can be converted into an Imperial Officer's uniform jacket. The other patterns for the officer jacket (Simplicity and McCalls are 2 names floating around on the 501st boards) are unavailable here in Europe.
But hey, this way I will get my Imp jacket and possibly a ST jacket some day too.

Anyway, any detail pics would be greatly appreciated!

Brother, I can't explain the amount of pride I have FOR you right now. That must be an incredible feeling! (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Great piece and a great story...love the ones that have sentimental atachment to them. Yopu look great in it as well which is always a bonus.

BTW, your collection in the background looks museum quality...great job on display work!

Great story and great aquisition.
Plus it really fits you like a glove.

Probably this is still my personal favourite trek uniform... Congratz!;)

Out of curiosity... From which movie is that leather trenchcoat in the background came from? The one with the holsters... Is it a death dealer coat?

Thanks guys. I am glad to have shared it with this family.

Dave Z - thanks from Mr. Museum himself !!

Reelo - yes, I can do this for you.

Also, this is in fact from Trek VII. It has an inside tag on the pants and undershirt that states this. Additionally, it was the suit Tuvok wore in Voyager's "Flashback" episode.

Ramiel- that is a full death dealer with overcoat and under leather coat (good eye) in the back from the first Underworld.

I'd like to 2nd Reelos requeste for detail pix
Eespecially a clear shot of the fasteners, please.

Definitely my favorite of the Trek uniforms, and you certainly cut a fine figure in that suit.

That is phenomenal man, I am so totally jealous. It would never fit me but I would love to put it on a display mannequin. I have loved the Monster Maroon uniforms since the film came out. I have all the pins and details and patterns to make one, but haven't found the perfect material as of yet. Someday I still hope to do that.

Dave :)

The material has been found as an officers wool...we have some of it here in LA but its fairly common.

Reading your story, I can really empathize with your joy that this "Holy Grail" has finally come home to you. That it fits you like a glove is sweet icing on the cake. Thanks for sharing your delight with us. Congratulations, man! :thumbsup

Jose, that's such an awesome story. Your perseverance always impresses me.

Now, are you quite sure you're not a Trek Fan? :lol Your disclaimers are priceless.

LOL - admittedly I do love Trek II and III.

I did enjoy IV and First Contact. There was a time I did watch Next Gen but that was it. I loved the concept but by the time DS9 and Voyager were around, it was too far out for me. I gave Enterprise a fighting chance but it got old fast for me.

BUUUUT, my love for this uniform never changed :)
