A Mask and Introductions (pics)

Hullo! (Mods if this post is in the wrong place or not cool, just delete)
I'm Oliver, been lurking around in the shadows for a while now, finally got the courage? up to make an account. Been interested in the Prop Making community for a while now. I've never made anything screen - accurate like you guys do it, hardly ever made anything replica at all, but I'm really hoping to get into it.

So, onward. I have been planning a short, steampunk-esque, (http://brassgoggles.co.uk/blog/) film as my final major project at college. Well I've been building the props for that and as an introduction I though I'd share some of that with you guys, that is, if you want to see.

The Mask

The mask I started with (bought from local art store)

I first undercoated it with a beige/brown mix.

I then painted it with acrylic and water, and blasted it dry with a hair-dryer to get that marbley look. (sorry no photos)
Then I varnished it with a wood varnish twice.

After letting that dry I edged it with a dark brown leather I had lying around.

As you can see here, I botched up that corner with a little too much UHU, but it doesn't show as bad as in the photos.

I'm quite pleased with the result, I still need to decide on how to attach it to my actor's face, but we'll see. Obviously not as good as you guys, but quite an achievement for a newbie, nonetheless.
Any thoughts/comments?
