A L I E N FIVE Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN movie

I guess I'm in the minority here in saying that I actually like the new pulse rifle, the same yet modernized. The only thing that I would do different would be to ditch the support on the front of the barrel to make it free floating, that and maybe ditch the rails for something a little more modern like MLok or Keymod slots.

It's not supposed to be modernized, it is supposed to be futuristic remember ;) :p

I should finally admit that the Thompson barrel always looked a little puny to me, blasphemy I know. I'm glad they beefed that up, but otherwise I'm not sure an orgy of tacticool accessories is really the answer, or even that an answer was needed. Funnily enough this one reminds me of the original stunt PR with the misplaced barrel. I like some of the new details, but I really hope the production design exercises some restraint, Blomkamp's recent outings have started to suggest to me that a firm hand on the reins might be prudent.

Let's just see how this goes huh?

Except that it isn't "Modernized".... thye put on tactical items that we have NOW and are easily recognized as items I see all the time at the local Gun Show. This is supposed to be taking place in the future... not nowadays. Seeing an EOtech-like holo sight and weaver rails just takes me out of the Sci-Fi element because it's easily recognizeable Today Tech.

I don't mind they changed the barrel. I just think they should have left off the weaver rails and holo sight. In my opinion they do not constitute an improvement or evolution. They are just gun-porn add ons for the hell of it.

But it's not supposed to be the far, distant future, it's a future that's no so far out that they're still using kinetic energy weapons and sub-luminal space travel so what they've done fits with the future that we first saw in Aliens. To me, they fit with the Aliens future and follows improvements that we've made in our own weapons technology; when Aliens came out caseless ammo was being toyed with and we were still using iron sights almost exclusively, now, 30 years later, caseless ammo still isn't a reality, but we've added rails to our weapons and red dot or holo sights are pretty much standard issue. That's not to say that they couldn't have designed their own versions of the PEQ and holo sight to look a little more futuristic but in and of themselves I don't think that they're that bad of a thing.

Well aliens took place in 2179, and this sequel will be sometime after that so I would think that 164 years in our future we would have devices like tac rails and holo sights that don't look exactly like their 164 year old counterparts!

My main point is that I DON'T think these new items blend well with the established tech of the M41A. They look like retro parts that Hicks found in a drawer somewhere and put on cuz he thought they were cool and "Vintage".... they don't look at all like something that would have existed alongside the M41A in 2179. They look like they are from 2015... cuz they ARE.

Well since Prometheus paradise lost is going to run direct in the timeline leading to the first Alien movie ....but this ,Blomkamp Alien 5 which wont interfere will run directly rom Aliens , so both films will be released in 2017 , that keeps things separated , and I am really going to enjoy how Alien 5 will make the storyline from ALIENS....this will most likely will save the Aliens franchise , and continue forward

As far as the M41-A pulse rifle new look....its not practical , considering , this is in almost the 22nd century will 20 century counterparts....doesn't seem like any upgrades to me , more like , they ran out of extra parts , in the future and went back to vintage, style rifle parts .. Just doesn't seem realistic for the future for the M41-A....sorry , just aint feeling it !!! :p

This you have a problem with, but Hicks having a vietnam era shotgun is fine?

Well lets see here:

HICKS has a very old shotgun. HICKS being a lone person.
Pulse Rifle is the standard issue weapon for Colonial Marines, NOT a lone person.

A single person that chooses to use a vintage weapon is a LOT different than vintage weapons being issued to everyone. A lot different.

I agree totally with that response , very well said....this is the USMC Colonial marines , ultimate badasses.....they all don't use vintage weapons and trained with a shotgun....sorry glunark,,,,don't agree with the concept ....colonial marines specify , we use state of the art weapons....JUST SAYIN"

Who says the pulse rifles in the new movie will be used by colonial marines?
Well since this will be another movie of Aliens , every concept is government owned by Weyland-Yutani and the USMC....these aren't civilians , we are talking about , this is all government

I have low hopes for this. For me, the best of Alien/Aliens have been rooted in interesting characters, dialogue and strong performances. Neil is a great stylist (though he obviously and admittedly pulls material/design from known manga) but he has yet to demonstrate an understanding of character, character development, dialogue or an innate understanding of actors. I have low hopes.
