8th Doctor Frock Coat

I got to watching the Doctor Who TV Movie with Paul McGann again the other night, and of course, I fell in love with that wonderful green velvet frock coat again. And I coveted it.

Now I know a couple of people who can make clothes, but they usually like to work from a pattern. Does anyone have such a thing for the coat?

It looks like a fairly standard double breasted coat; most Civil War & Old West venders have petterns for them. It looks about the same as a couple of Tom Baker's various coats so you could kill 2 birds with one stone. :lol

I made a Dr. Who (Tom Baker) coat from the Buckaroo Bobbins frock coat. It was fairly straightforward to make and it had alteration options with it.

I got a Anthony Formalwear Black Frock Coat.
and It works fantastically for a 8 coat, some changes needed but it looks fab!

The guys on that comunity are fantastic! Love them all!

You'd think that an industry run by little gray-haired old ladies would be completely clueless to the needs of costumers (who are almost always ahead of the curve), but several of the pattern making companies have released very serviceable male-centric patterns in recent years. I picked up a great frock coat pattern that I used to make a Steam Punk coat from. Its a western pattern, but the era is correct. A little change-o on the lapels and tailoring the shoulders to NOT have huge pads in them (because I guess pattern makers ARE a touch clueless when it comes to some things) and tah-dah!

So visit your local fabric store. Search the pattern books thoroughly. Its worth it.
