8D8 Jabba Droid build

Hi Zorg
This is the only photos i have as Lucas have lost the rest of 8D8. I found his head in a pile of junk in another part of the Archives and reunited it with his body for the photo.
The neck was the channel selector from a old 70s or earlier TV set.
I had taken some photos of the insect head, but those photos were lost and no one is allowed into the Archive building now, unless it is a special job.
They have gone all high security since a there was a problem there.
There was no box on 8D8s back when I found him, but that could be due to the re dressing of him.
All their droids were in bad condition with a lot of missing parts and damage when they arrived at the Archives from the UK.
So I would be reluctant to take the droids you see in the exhibitions as canon

I love your 8D8 and the droid center you did
I had wanted to do a display something along this line many year ago for a convention, but never did get to it
But here are some reference photos for your next up date of 8D8 They are of the 8D8 prop as I found him in the Lucas Archives, The center chest detail is flat alloy, it makes me think of an engine block, the head and body was made from wood with metal inserts.
The different color scheme is from a redressing of the body and an insect type head put on him, to be seen up in Jabbas throne room on the left of the entry door.View attachment 495030View attachment 495031

Hey, this might be a stretch, but do you remember the colour of the insect droid head? hasbro made him yellow but I reckon it was really white!

you can see parts of the yellow paint underneath the scratched white paint.

The insect head I found in the Archives was white,
but this could also be due to it being reused another time in "Jedi "

Just a heads up
I have just found there are some great photos of some of the droids and a full side shot of 8D8 (with his insect head), so you can see his legs and feet finally,
in the coffee table book STAR WARS THE BLUEPRINTS by J.W.Rinziler.
It is a must for all the information you can get out of it, not just for the blueprints.
There are many things that I have never seen from my time at Lucas Film

I want to see a big pic of cz3 side and rear head shots. There is a pic of the head rear in brandon's costume book but it's too small to see any detail

Hi Chris
The cz3 head (insect droid) that I found was lacking any detail.
There was the fly like eyes and the "pincher" mouth that was cast fibreglass in a one piece, open mould.
The mould may have been plaster, as there was no under cuts on the top.
This was popped out and then fused to a totally flat fibreglass base ( including the pinchers) with no detail under the head.
The neck detail was screwed onto the head to finish the look.
