89 Batman cape-which material was used?

Yeah they latexed all canvas,The shape of the oval is to fit the Clooney emblem, Other then that it looks the same as the canvas other movie cowls had.

This is how I understand it, take it for what it's worth:
There was a harness that Keaton wore under everything, this is what the bolts combine to. Then the chest armor goes on with the bodysuit and is lined up with the holes on the harness. After that was the cape which got lined up and then the armor and cape was bolted down to the harness. The emblem was then placed over top with velcro or magnets or something... could use anything now i guess.
The canvas on the cowl I believe was attached to the powernetting that was cast into the foam. This allowed the foam to stretch without tearing too easily. The canvas material would have been added because if straight foam where to be used an an anchor it would just tear out and they wanted it to stay connected.
Basicall the canvas area of the cowl was bolted between two aluminum plates, the plate on the harness and the plates of the cape.
Once the cowl was put on it was glued down to the cape so that the pints line up with the seems and then it was all bolted together.

i first saw this film when i was a vey young kid, and used to play in the garden weaing a sheet instead of the relatively crappy bought dress - up suits (!!!), and up until now i had no idea the suit was THAT complicated.
sure, i knew it must have been heavy - i mean let's face it, the cowl looked especially chunky - but i think that micheal keaton deserves a medal for doing such a good job.
the cape does look fantasic on screen, and even though the batman begins/dark knight cape looks like the flowy cape of the comics (i love the image in batman begins where he's on a drainpipe in the norrows - classic batman), i felt that the scallops were hard to see, like when bale/batman is fighting, you don't get the sort of imagary like in the cathedral fight in keaton/batman.

Hi,
I finished 3 other pieces last week.
After some research I came up with the idea of putting the pieces togther with gauze. (Thats how it was made in the movie)
I did some tests with different types of gauze until I found something that worked well. (see pics)
This method isn´t so easy, because you have to get the pieces into the right position before you can lay the gauze into the wet rubber.
But it is very stable - much more so than sewing and it´s much closer to the real thing.
I´ll make the cape 1,7m in length, so it will fit my mannequin.
For the texture, I just rolled latex with a roller in layers. The trick is simplicity-You just have to roll it in different directions to get the required texture.
Please let me know what you think about it!

It's looking great, the texture on the cape looks really nice. I just got a latex cape that was molded off of one of Keaton's Returns cape, and the look is very close.

It is very simple:
I just cut out 2 aluminium plates which you can see in my pics.
Second, I´ve bolted them to the cape.
I´m not totally finished with the whole fastening-Thing. I think that I will use another metal plate under the bodysuit to fix the two cape plates on it. That´s nearly the same way as they did it in the movies.
