5" Nostromo kits out of the mold!

Here is an interesting little kit I am doing, a 5" Nostromo kit.
I found the basic pieces on E-bay, bid way too much, and got very few usable parts out of the supposed "kit" I was getting. Most parts were damaged or unusable. I ended up with a cool little model after a lot of putty, recreation, and fabricating new parts that were not even included. I recast the whole kit complete with all engine flaps, landing gear, detailed engine nacelles, and even the little front antenna. I asked the guy where it came from, he said some guy who worked on the original Alien cast it from a small model of the Nostromo..... I have no idea if this is even true, I cant vouch for it at all.

50 parts included, very detailed for its size...

I am starting building this version for myself,, and it looks like a miniature of the large ones... Just so much fun to cast these, cos it does not take a whole week!!!:lol:lol:lol

Shouldn't we now engage in a lengthy and bitter dispute about the evils of recasting? :lol

Edit: sorry. And it's really cool - nice work!

A quick update on this project: I have gotten in contact with the guy that had the molds, they are the originals, and he offered me the first chance to buy them, and I great-fully took him up on the offer. So recasting is a dead issue now !:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

Actually, I have a serious question for anyone who may be able to help..
Does anyone here on the rpf have the diagrams to the refinery? meaning a good top view and bottom view of the storage tanks and an overall decent schematic? It does not have to have every little rivet and bolt on it..just a nice diagram for reference? Any help in this will be greatly appreciated!

Well, here's a shot of it in some storage place after the movie wrapped gathering dust... towers and spherical details on the bottom are missing but it may help a little to get the overall shape. Someone did a really excellent model of it, it was huge....

Edit: John Bednar's model can be found at http://www.culttvman.com/bench_219_john_bednar.html
I think he might have made another since then though...

Holy Cow....that Little nostromo model on front looks exactly like the molds I bought from this guy in Redondo beach, that is really crazy... What a fantastic model that guy made... simply amazing. And the pics you find Spacejockey are incredible..... !!! I was scoping out my little nostromo model on the kitchen table, and the refinery would be about as big as this guys...Wow he did a cool model

Here is a my little one I am doing, I am kinda just throwing it together, I maybe will add some small brass plumbing to the back, the antennas and probes....

In this pic I just have the major parts together and a light coat of gray..I can probably have this done in another 2 days. A person could really detail this kit extremely well if they wished. I am trying to think of a molded base I can create..here it is just mounted on a 2x4 piece of wood....

Looking nice. Hopefully once you're able to sell them you can do a package deal for the pair!

That refinery is amazing. Looks like a nice model of The Betty in the background of one of the shots too.

From all of the pictures I have seen, the Betty is a very cool ship. I never saw the ALIEN 3 movie, but the Betty is a seriously heavy-duty looking spaceship. I need to see some better pictures, because I am not sure really how the whole thing looks in a full view...

here is the kit with the VTOL thrusters attached. It is pvc resin, so in this case I am using simple solvent-based painters putty to float out the seams on the thrusters.

If I had more time, I would taper the main motor flap edges to a bevel with a bit of sandpaper. I am just trying to show the basic construction of this little kit so as to inspire confidence in the more skilled builders here on the rpf~!!!!

UPDATE: 5" Nostromo kits out of the mold!

The small version of the Nostromo is almost ready in kit form. In will include all the pieces, instructions, heavy box/w graphics, planetoid base with eggs very close to the original photo on the cover of the original ALIEN novel by Alan Dean Foster The kit will be very reasonably priced, and will be announced on the junkyard in a few days.
