3D Airwolf Helmet

For clarification they did not use the Porsche helmet. I believe the helmet was scratch built. I just think that is where they got the visor. It is the only visor of that type that could have worked, short of military flight helmets, but those are not wide enough I think.

Let me get some pics up of the shell, modern sun visor I am using, and the Porsche visor in the next few days.
The way we were working it up, I had an outer shell, and then an inner shell that both cradled the retracted visor and also separated the wearer from the pivots/electronics/and so forth... Ha I got excited to think we could cheat and just build 'over' a helmet, but that's OK. If it was easy, everybody would have one already :)

I do like how that temporary visor looks in the shell, the curvature looks great.

Sorry everyone I'm a little behind. We had some family stuff come up that I'm dealing with today, so I will post pictures of the helmet and measurements and the accessory all tomorrow. I will also post pictures of the Time Rider helmet with the shell that covers the visor and the visor itself that I think they used.

No worries and no rush. Deal with what is most important in life.

Here are pics.

I have a huge 25" head and it fits me fine. There are lots of helmet padding kits to keep it simple.

So I have a mint new Porsche helmet with visor, but I won't play with that until I have the visor system figured out using the older clear visor I have and the extra visor housing.

We have a member interested in casting the helmet. He will be cleaning up the Airwolf shell, adding holes for the switches, the collar, etc.. I have PMd Art to ask if it is okay if we cast it. I think under the circumstances he would not have a problem, but I have not heard back yet.

Would you be able to post a couple of pictures with the outer dimensions, including height? You might need another pair of hands with that, if you use an edge of a flat piece of cardboard on top of the helmet, for the height. With the length and widths, you could put the helmet against a wall and then put a piece of cardboard on the other side measuring the L & W. This would help in getting a proper size in a 3D program.

I have trouble walking and chewing gum at the same time, but I will work on it. :p

Wow those are STELLAR pictures, thank you. I have spent hours with photogrammetry trying to dial in my model from the screen-used and Stull helmets, those are going to help immensely. Heck I get excited even seeing the button and temple light areas un-cut :)

I am glad they helped. I had to make them fast. I am just slammed with adulting and it sucks, but I wanted to throw something up, while I was frantically listing some stuff.

As soon as I can I will post a bunch of pics with measurement. Likely tomorrow as I will have extra hands.

Sorry folks. I have not gotten to this yet. I will try this weekend. Been a mix of crazy good and bad, very busy time.

I asked Art twice about casting the helmet as Steve is dead or a douche bag. No response.

One of our members, who is a master creator/caster, is willing to mod, add the collar, switch holes, etc. and offer castings, however he will not consider it without Art's permission. If someone wants to try and get a hold of him, then everyone can skip trying to make one and measurements and just get one.

This guys work is the best.

Anywho I will try and get the measurements ASAP.

It's a no from the management on casting this shell.

I will try and get the measurements next week when things calm down here at home.

Just to clarify, what kind of provenance did Steve's shells have? They were cast off an original?

Yep. Season 2 Hero. He used it for his helmets. This is one of his, per him. May he rest in peace if he passed, or burn in hell if he is still alive.
That's what I thought. And the no-go on casting is understandable.. I'm OK with taking the long road

I don't think it is, but not my playground. Is what it is.

I asked, they answered and that's all you can ask for.

I remember people going after Art for something about why a certain member or company was not banned, and he offered his explanation. People kept going after him. Finally I chimed in because even though I did not agree with him, he offered his explanation and that is that. What more do you want from the guy.

So, yeah I am disappointed. Mostly for you guys. I have the darn thing, so it was more so you guys could get a shell and build your own helmets since Steve has left us one way or the other.

I seriously think he passed away, and had not made arrangements for these last few helmets. Why would you screw yourself for three of four helmets worth of money after delivering for sixteen years and 184 helmet, plus number 185 that was delivered and then returned to be resized.

Okay my Airwolf helmet shell is off to a friend to get some work done on it.

Here is what I took for more measurements.

8.5" high

8" wide opening at the bottom for your head to go through.

10" long opening at the bottom for your head to go through.

I have a huge 25" size 8 head and it fits fine.

Visor opening at the center is 2.5" high.

The visor depth from the center of the mouth guard straight back to where it hits the sides of the visor opening is 3.5"

So Art and Montagar said making castings for the four of us who got screwed is okay, but we can not offer a run as that gets into re-casting territory.

The other option I was thinking about is, as measurements are only going to get you so far, maybe when I get it backed I can send it to someone to simply laser scan it, so people can make their own????

Or just measure the heck out of it.

Anyone thought of 3d modelling one or making one and 3d scanning and just making it avaiable for everyone?

Especially if you have critical dimesions, making a helmet isnt dificult.

Heck! You can vacuform of cast the visor in clear resin....viola!

It would put this entire issue to rest.

No, dont look at me to do it. But really, helmets may seem scary, but they are really easy to make.
