3-day Star Destroyer from Garbage!

We have a new baby on the way, and as such purchased a fancy new crib...which came in a really big box. My little guy has been using various pieces of cardboard for a Star Destroyer, and I had a thought...I have this massive amount of cardboard destined for the curb...why not make a Star Destroyer from all that for my son?

Now, don't measure the proportions, but I figured the basic shape I roughed out was recognizable enough...

I used heavy cardboard for the main shape and structure, then thinner cardboard for the greeblie detail, and then cereal box cardboard for a few spots. Lots of carpenter glue, duct, and masking tape were also used.

Its about 33" long, and I sliced two sections open on the top for my little guy to stuff Star Wars figures into it. He seems pretty happy with it:

I spent a few bucks on white spray paint and foam balls for the shield generators (which I'll have to fix, since the partially disintegrated from the paint). Otherwise, I made it from stuff from the recycle bin...I can thank Atlanthia for the inspiration!

This is funny because the other day on tv there was a report saying that kids have more fun with the cardboard boxes on Christmas than the actual toys :lol.

My Dad made me a playset battle command center out of cardboard and dowels and I loved it.

Unfortunately my mom threw it away, but good memories none the less.

Great job here!

That's an excellent quick-and-dirty cardboard build - and really quick for just 3 days :) Kids don't care about the details we care too much about - all they know is that their cool dad built them a cool Star Destroyer and that's what counts.

Very cool, I am all for scrap/budget builds, that is one lucky little boy, love it.
