Ok guys, to start off, if you haven't seen my other thread that explains how I got the revolver, what model it is, and how I got the idea to make the hand of god, click here: http://www.therpf.com/f9/peacemaker-revolver-customization-ideas-114688/
Ok. If you read the other thread you know how I got the gun and what-not, so now on to the important part. Heres the gun before I did anything to it:

Heres the gun I want to turn it into:

And here is where I painted the barrel and cylinder of the gun with an EXTREMELY dark blue.

I still need to find out how to make the paint less glossy. I am thinking about rubbing it with steel wool, but am not sure. Anyone know how to? I have the rest of the project planned out, and just need to get the materials.

What sort of paint did you use? You could fix the shine by using matt, rather than gloss paint.

i used testor model paint- its pretty glossy, and doesnt give the effect of having blued the steel of the gun, which is what it is supposed to look like

i think ill leave the paint the way it is. if it bothers me later, ill fix it, but for now i will just try to get some antique bronze paint, which i can probably get tomorrow.

You want to dull the paint? Spray a little brake cleaner on a rag and lightly rub the paint. But, you'd better be sure the paint is completely dry, or the paint will come off.

still havent got the paint, and the paint on the cylinder is scratching off a little from the nub thing attached to the trigger . Will DEFINATELY get the paint this weekend. Will probably post pictures tomorrow or monday

You can buy gun blueing stuff for pretty cheap online. I just did a google search for products and came up with this site. Gun Bluing Made Easy With Van's Instant Gun Blue!

There is a nice before and after pic and the smallest bottle was like 8 bucks. Good luck, this is going to look great!

Edit** I'm not sure if thats actual metal. If not disregard! XD

oh, i decided against blueing and just painted it anyway since its pretty cheap metal. you cant tell from the pictures, but it looks like its just scrap metal or somethin. or at least its not very high quality. but thanks anyway :)

ugh. i tried to paint it with a gold-ish paint which looked like the color on the gun from the cap, but turned out to be brilliant gold. It does not look at all what it should be, so ill repaint it......anyone have any ideas on what color it should be?

Well, I'm not an expert, but if it were my project, I'd paint the frame with a flat black (then wet-sand a bit, OR use a semi-flat black) then afterwards, try rubbing on some 'Autumn' gold or 'Grecian' gold Rub'N'Buff. You'll be able to control how much paint goes where, & the black showing through in certain areas should simulate that worn effect that's on the screen-used piece.

That's what I'd do anyway. (No guarantees of success though, wait for more input). ;)

Just as an FYI, you can buy this from several gun makers. Umberti offers a version and it is a real .45 cal revolver. Not a bad price either.

The problem with using any products that are made for real guns is that the metal on these non-guns is not the same and the products do not work the same. I had an all metal MGC 45 Auto that I wanted to re-blue and I used Birchwood-Casey Gun Blue and followed all of the directions and it came out really bad.

Also, the gun in the screen cap has been case hardened, which means some of the parts have been heat treated to give them that worn goldish blue look. This was usually done on the frame and trigger like in the picture. So, you are never going to replicate it with chemical process.

Your best bet is to try and paint it with a Gun Metal colored paint, Testors used to have this in a spray can, as the base coat. Buff that down and then spray goldish brown highlights on top of it and then buff that down.

I can't wait to see how it comes out.

Thanks guys! havent made much leeway on this project recently due to working on my eagle scout project, but i will start up again soon when I find the time (probably in a week or two)
