24, thoughts and opinions?

I just recently started watching the show 24 out of boredom, and I know that I'm way behind on this, but I wanted to share my opinion and hear from others about it as well. Watching this show actually makes me angry. I'm in the second season right now, and it's kind of addictive because I really want to see how the whole situation turns out, but the characters are infuriating. Jack Bauer is basically a psychopath. The edgy "cop who doesn't follow the rules" thing worked until he point blank murdered that witness at the beginning of season 2 (and then cut his head off). That's taking it a little far I think. As for the rest of the characters, if the show weren't called "24", their backup title must have been "Women are Stupid". Every single woman on the show makes the worst decision she can make at every single opportunity. I'm not a feminist or anything, I'll admit that I actually think outdated sexist stuff is kind of funny, but this show goes right past kind of funny and straight into aggravating. I'm kind of amazed it stayed on the air for so many seasons for that reason alone.

I'd really like to hear others' thoughts on the show, especially from some of the ladies on the forum.

I couldn't get past the first episode, but this sexism you speak of intrigues me... I might give it another shot!

The only thing good about it was that my favorite actress, Sandrine Holt, was in it... in a few episodes of one season.

Maybe not, but I hate her something awful. If they don't make you hate their stupidity, you hate them for other reasons.

Oh I agree, she's horrible. I don't think it's just the women though. Pretty much everyone in the series is horrible for some reason or another.

Some would tell you it's so they can have an 'arc'.

It seems to me (in Terry and Sherri's cases anyways) that the writers felt guilty about what they'd do in the finale, so they tried to make them the worst people they possibly could. More effort than necessary I think, especially for those of us who watched Lost where character deaths are just a part of life.

I don't remember him decapitating anyone. All I know is the second to last season where the White House was attacked was so totally ridiculous I stopped watching it until the next season.

I like 24, I watched every season with my wife and I throughly enjoyed it. I will say though that the plot devices that they use get a over-used quite a bit. By the end of the series you could tell that the writers were struggling on how to keep the show fresh. CTU has a huge "mole" problem. They should probably call an exterminator.

I don't remember him decapitating anyone.

It was right at the beginning of season 2 when they brought him in, it was that fat pedophile guy (who they made a pedophile to make it alright to kill him, obviously) who was a witness against that guy they had to find. Jack shot him in the interrogation room and then asked for a hacksaw to cut his head off to prove that he killed him.

Honestly, it just seems like the writers feel really guilty about bad things happening, so they give the audience reasons to feel better about it.

Oh, and so far in season 2, Kim Bauer wins the award for stupidest character. I didn't think she was so bad in season 1, but maybe she was just overshadowed by Terry.

The decapitating scene was one of the classic one-liners by Bauer, "I'm gonna need a hacksaw"

Season 3 is where most people lose interest. I would watch up till the first half of Season 5 and quit there. Season 5 started out with a bang, literally and trailed off as if the writers were just making it up as they were filming. And another classic one liner from that season (no context to avoid spoilers) was "the only reason you're still conscious is because I don't feel like carrying you".

If you're infuriated by season two, I'd skip 3, 4, and 5. Pick it back up at 6. seriously.

I enjoyed the show as mindless pulp fiction. Any kind of analysis will lead to anger.

He was already dead then. I figure they needed to prove he was dead to stop something else bad from happening. Wouldn't the fact that he shot the guy be the bad part? :lol ;)

I started watching this show from the beginning and have seen every episode, but to be honest everything after the mid point of the 4th season was watched out of loyalty rather than genuine interest and desire.

If you can not get into the first two seasons then I wouldn't bother watching the rest, as I think they peaked with season 2. Season 3 is where it started to go down hill, but it was still watchable. Four and on, dreadful with the exception of a few standalone episodes. The first half of the 8th and final season was the absolute worst, but surprisingly the second half was really good.

I started watching at season 4 and then since i liked it so much, I started renting the first 3 seasons to catch up. I couldn't get enough. My favorite season is still 4. The worst season was 7, the one before the writers strike which they actually skipped a whole season. It really seemed like no one was trying and like stated previously, I watched out of loyalty. The cliffhangers just weren't that interesting. The last season picked back up though in my opinion. Too bad season 6 and 7 couldn't have had the same appeal.

I thought Season 5 was pretty decent......at least I think it was Seaon 5, they are all a blur at this point.

I waited until this show came out of DVD before I watched it.

When Season 1 came out I had what I thought was a clever idea. I watched the entire show in one day.

Turns out it made it seem incredibly un-realistic.

If all that stuff happened to one guy and his family in one day, you'd blow your damn brains out by the end of the day.

Ruined it for me. Started watching Season 2 but it bored me to death.

I did the same thing, but i bought the dvd in a secondhand store because it was dirt cheap.
It's the only season i have seen and would like to see the rest, But GOD how stupid is not Jack's daughter and wife... HOW MANY TIMES in ONE day can you get kidnapped???
Guessing you could make a good Drinking game out of that season.
