Talk about lucky. The cool segmented sections of the backdrop are instep with all site signs we have at our forestry locations. And, the nicer ones, truthfully. Like multi placed shadow boxes and you can update them at will.
Oh, and you were quite correct about that cement, although slyly self serving, it would have been a serious upcharge if the dumpster service found all that in a trash bin. It clearly states on our bins that soil and other types of non-biodegradable landscaping/industrial fill (cement and asphalt) is not allowed in the mix.

Just a suggestion, since it will be expensive to make, but instead of photos, use a set of laser etched images to endure the elements.

Today I picked out a few photos that are taken from the movie that tell the story of the monolith.
I now will try to have them printed on paper to see how they will look as part of the sign?

Sign photo update:
we printed a few photos out that were taken from the movie, and right away I did not like the colors of the photos.
The use of color seems out of place to me somehow.
So we are printing out the photos again but only in black and white.
I have the hope that black-and-white photos will fit into the image better that i have in my mind of what I want the finished sign to look like.

One of the paper options, at most print shops, is waterproof paper. I use it, it looks normal and it works. No buckling or staining from moisture. It only costs maybe 35 cents extra per sheet. Commonly used by real estate agents. Not gloss photo or any of the other home use ones but specifically "WATERPROOF PAPER". Some will substitute brands with other descriptions but needs to confirm waterproof not water resistant. It is available for laser and inkjet but since laser is best for sun exposure, black and white laser on waterproof and you are golden.
Also, print trick to avoid: do not let the print shop put the image in the corner or at an edge. Ask for the image to be centered even on large format papers (11×17). You will usually find that "not centered" means the borders cannot be made equal when fitting the actual hole in the display. Centered, even with a lot of trimming to do, means you are at least working with possible instead of impossible.

in the basket ball back-stop I need to have something behind each photo to hold it next to the see-through plastic.
I decided to use some of that pink foam stuff..

ok.....Im sitting out looking at my vineyard, enjoying my best wine from last year...and basking in the klnowledge that I made a great sign for the monolith....without spending a dime!

this is the image people will first see as they draw near to the Black Monolith.
I did not want to draw attention to the sign.
I wanted it to be there, but off to thr side.
People have a right to be blown away by the size of the monolith.,...
its design...
Its different-ness.
but then I wanted there to be a sign to help them understand...

the thing I liked right away about the basket ball back-stop was that it had a design that was in sections.
I had this idea that this would allow me to post different things and photos.

now this is the image I had in my mind at the start...
I wanted photos...and i wanted some text..
I wanted them to be about the Monolith, but then I wanted them to be stuff that they likely have no idea what they are talking about.
I wanted the sign to 'inform" in a way that does not help much....
In other words....I the sign and the monolith itself to be?....I want to be part of the 2001 "Mystery"
