Posting a few photos here of the Whirlpool Space Kitchen/Galley as seen in 2001: A Space Odyssey during the Aries flight to the moon. I'm looking for ANY photos of the prop and or any information about who and how it was made!
Thank you! Do you have any source material regarding your statement that is made in the studio and made of wood and acrylic? The piece was put on tour and made many stops at science shows, home and patio shows, etc. I'm trying to track down anything having to do with it's development between the Whirlpool Corporation and the studio.
TFS those pics with us johnmiknight...never saw those before. Seems to me that the left pic is showing some kind of mock-up of the screen-used kitchen:confused
You might try contacting the people behind the 3 MMG photography archive websites...it's a long shot for sure but you never know what they might find http://www.mmgphotos.com
Hmmm. Look at the spacing between the square tiles in the set photos, versus the big black and white photo of the tour kitchen. They're very different. It occurs to me that Whirlpool may have rebuilt the surrounding 'tiled' areas (so the sides were clean for the viewing public), even though the appliance fronts may be original. Just a guess...
If you want some HD screencaps from the film, I can can get them. I doubt they'll reveal anything you can't already see in the lower-res images, though. Does the kitchen appear in any of the behind the scenes footage?
