2001: A Space Odyssey... Am I the only one that...

2001 is one of my favorite movies, but I must admit that if I am the least bit sleepy the space waltz puts me out like a light. The Blue Danube and slow movements are relaxing I guess.

To each their own, but I lost interest after "Me love you long time" played out. I thoroughly enjoyed the first half though. Now Platoon...that was more enjoyable as a complete movie for me. I do enjoy and appreciate Kubrick's work though:)

And this decade has just begun!

Really, you can't argue 'bout a Kubrick film -- they're perfect.

You kids...raised on MTV and commericals, you don't have any attention span beyond 3 minutes. Some films lose a lot on a TV, no matter how big it may be. This film like many others, can NEVER be truely appreciated unless you see it on the big screen. Plus you have to put it in the context WHEN it was made. This was years before Star Wars, The Matrix, LOTR etc. It is Not a mindless action film but one where you have to pay attention and engage it.

While I disagree with his films being "perfect"...they are haunting and thought provoking. The kind of stuff that stays with you for days. For a movie/movies...what more could you ask for?! Probaly why I own copies of each one.

Kubrick made films, not movies.

And they're as close to perfect as you'll ever get.

I am not a plain M&M, I am a milk chocolate M&M.

Naw. I say Back to the Future is way better than 2001. It's entertaining, the story is about something, it's flawlessly written, has a classic musical score, doesn't rely on visuals of mountains to tell it's story and it has a lot of replay value.

Hahaha that's the funniest thing I've read all year.

Thanks Jeyl! Unless you mean that, and then well that's even funnier.

Duncan Jones' "Moon" just won the Hugo Award. :sleep

Just thought I'd toss that out there. :love

I don't think there's a single Kubrick Film ive seen that i don't like.

Lolita
The Killing
Dr Strangelove
Paths Of Glory
Spartacus
2001
Clockwork Orange
The Shining
Full Metal Jacket
I even liked the totally bizarre "Eyes Wide Shut".

Haven't seen Barry Lyndon or his really early films though.

Anyone who thinks Kubrick didn't know how to do character after watching '2001' needs to watch his early films. A good one to start with would be 'The Killing' - a totally electric heist thriller, with incredibly vivid performances. Also 'Dr. Strangelove' and 'Lolita'. The incredibly intense dialogue and characters of his early films prove he was deliberately up to something with their absence in '2001'.

As for 'BTTF', the trailer sucked so bad when it came out that I didn't go to see it. So I can't comment on whether it's better than '2001' or not. However, the GF assures me that saying 'BTTF' is way better than '2001' is like saying 'High School Musical' is way better than 'The Dekalog' by Kieslowski. Think I can trust her on that.

A plain M&M is milk chocolate.

Yeah, and I was quoting from an M&M commercial when the company announced they would no longer be calling plain M&Ms plain anymore, but milk chocolate. Yep, they made a commercial out of that. :lol

Film, movie. Who gives a crap what you call it?
