Has anyone ever attempted, succeeded or even thought about recreating a 2-1B Surgical Droid Head/Bust from the OT. I was just looking over pictures and thought it would be a cool project. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no skills in sculpting.

There's one on eBay right now. Just the head I believe
A full size one? The only ones I have seen on eBay where the 1/6 scale mini busts.
Yes it was full sized. Priced around $400 if I remember

Man, I would love to add one to my collection.
I sent him a PM and he does have a few kits for sale. I am gonna grab one. For right now they are just the head and the lighting kit. He plans to offer the clear back and neck portion at a later date.

The new casts are NOT the same as the old sculpt. They now have a better surface texture, they do not have the side spikes and the head its self is longer front to back giving better proportions.
Btw Isn't it medical droid rather than surgical droid?

I was just going off the Wookiepedia article here: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/2-1B_surgical_droid But they seem to use "Medical" and "Surgical" interchangeably in the article.

Got my cast in today... went to work on it straight away (I also sourced a microphone shell, so the cast mic had to go, plus there is very minor clean up needed on a seam and the inside of the head, nothing big, that cast is pretty much flawless!)
Before cutting it up, I had to take a pic though:

What was the model of the microphone you are using? A Shure 55s?
here is one grafted on, it was bought as a shell from shure direct. i believe they still sell them for around 59 pounds.
you may still be able to get a good deal on ebay so maybe look there first.
if you want metal spikes for the sides, check out spike studs on ebay, there are various sizes and they are cheap.
removing the cast on mic is tricky so please go slow and steady with constant checking, the bridge of the nose area has to be very thin.
you can gently heat the cast with a heatgun and persuade the plastic to the correct shape slightly if you make a mistake.
here what it should look like. ignore the colour, its a base coat.
hope this helps, oh and you will have to cut the bracket off the bottom of the mic housing. that to slow and steady!

Looks great! You know I'm in for a new head when the full kit is ready.
