1920's-1930's Passport Stamps and Visas!

I'd like to provide a resource here for all of us 'period' paper prop fans.

For whatever reason, I've been on a passport hunting binge lately; trying to dig up some good 1920's-1930's passport stamp references. No idea why. Just one of those things that happens. :wacko

This period applies neatly to both Indiana Jones and the Cthulhu Mythos, both of which I am a fan of.

Finding good references online to be scarce, I thought "we" could share some stuff on here. I know we have a lot of Indy fans on here. And no small amount of Cthulhu cultists as well.

Sharing is caring! And friendship is magic!

Here is an Egyptian entry stamp from circa 1926.

Redrawn by me and based on a real passport stamp.

Perfect for all your Indiana Jones or Cthulhu Mythos needs!

Here's a second Egyptian entry stamp, this one used to cancel revenue stamps.

Drawn by me from a real stamp.

Here's an Egyptian visa from 1942.

This one's a little trickier than the others, larger in size, with lots of information to be filled in.

The original was a (purple) rubber stamp. This replica may even be incomplete, as the image I was working from was cut-off at the bottom.

Fair warning.

Here's a French entry stamp from 1920.

The date goes in the blank space in the center.

Here's a small, odd stamp I've seen: a little note of "Foreign Currency Imported," with spaces for US Dollars, Swiss Francs, Swedish Kronor, and one blank spot.

Useful for your European travels, perhaps.

I wish I had something to contribute to this. With the upcoming re-release of Chaosium's "Horror on the Orient Express", I've been trying to collect prop ideas to liven up the game. Visa Stamps are exactly that sort of thing! So.... I'll try to contribute soon.

Thank you!

Alex,

If you haven't bought the HPLHS's paper props CD, do yourself a favor and get it.

It's got DIY blank passports and a dozen visa stamps.

Nothing specific to the Orient Express, but it's good stuff.

Not to mention many other Mythos odds-&-ends.

Here's another one: An entry visa for Paris, France, circa 1920.

Like the other 'big' one, it needs to be filled in with number, date, signature, and origin / destination.

Here's a Hong Kong stamp from 1923.

You need to write the date in the space above "Examined" and put a signature in the space below it.

My magnum opus thus far: a 1929 British Mandate of Palestine entry visa.

Thanks to Google Translate, I'm pretty confidant in the Arabic and Hebrew. Please don't tell me if I'm wrong :lol

Be sure to sign and date it!

Here is a Mandate of Palestine revenue stamp, circa 1928, if you'd like to add it to your entry visa. I'm not sure that's what this was used for, and the entry visa I used did not have one. Fair warning.

Here are two Egyptian fee stamps.

Rather attractive looking, too, if I do say so myself.

EDIT: See Post #5 Above.

great thread Mike! I need to order one of HPLHS' cds. A lot of my Lovecraftian props are in dire need of proper labels and such. I'Ll keep an eye out for something to contribute.

Here's a Peruvian stamp from 1931.

Perfect for all your Indiana Jones adventures!

In this context, I think "Vapor" refers to a steamship.

And, of course, sign where it says "El Jefe." :lol
