Re: Studio Scale TIE Fighter V3

I have been thinking about taking up some more modeling like this, and this work is a true inspiration. Don't know if I could actually come up with anything half as good. Maybe I will have to stick with the legos...

Re: Studio Scale TIE Fighter V3

I used Tamiya medium gray for the panel of the top hatch, those are the only darker panels on this ANH TIE.

Julien, The only darker colors on the ANH TIE Fighters were the top hatch panels?

I see that the eFX TIE Fighter has the panels next to the canopy also painted the darker shade. I thought that was done in ESB.

Mike.

Re: Studio Scale TIE Fighter V3

If you don't mind me asking Julien, what did the length of your armature end up being? I have one that's 14" (35.5cm) but I think it's too long.

Re: Studio Scale TIE Fighter V3

Julien, Did you get this one done yet with the decals applied?

BTW, I had sent you a couple of PM's. Did you receive them?

Mike.

Re: Studio Scale TIE Fighter V3

Hi everyone, I've been lurking on this site for quite a while when I happened on this thread which is amazing btw. I was wondering if someone had a link to the parts list and kits used for a tie fighter build, I know somebody posted a link to the studio scale modeller forum but I can't check the thread because I'm not a member and can't register either because registration are disabled

Been making model kits for a couples of years and wanted to try my hand at scratchbuilding a studio scale tie for quite a while now

Hello,

Unfortunatly asking for a kitlist is not the best thing to do for a first post and this is not how it works.
Please take some time to dig into this forum to start getting infos.

You can also start by posting pics of your previous work (in the general section if those are not studio scale models), show your implication, try to find parts etc...

Re: Studio Scale TIE Fighter V3

Ok thanks ! sorry if my first post seemed needy

Maybe i can help out:)
If you could tell me which kit the parts in the red circle come from then i will tell you the one in the blue circle.

But seriously,..i have the feeling the parts in the red circles have been identified and are not scratch build parts.
If anyone knows the kit these come from please help me /all of us who builds the tie fighter out.
To me these are really mistery parts.
MonsieurTox? ,PLEASE!!!..maybe?
If you know from which kit these parts come from and want to share the info but want the kit to remain secret please pm me,...i can keep a secret.
Maybe the kit lists on SSM could be updated?
Thanks to you all who want to share and a special warm thank you for Monsieur Tox for mastering this amazingly accurate Tie-fighter and perhaps for sharing the info on these mistery parts.

xD I absolutely cannot help you on this, I have no knowledge whatsoever of old 70's model kit parts but I think you're in the right direction, I'm 90% sure those are not scratch built if that help anything ... they look like some sort of gear box cover though

These parts are not scratchbuilt and are kitparts, however I was given those parts (actually I was given castings) by someone but I haven't been told which kit the parts come from.

Re: Studio Scale TIE Fighter V3

ARRRG!!!! the agony of mistery parts:)
Thanks MonsieurTox for claring that up.
So these parts are known then by some lucky few.
MonsieurTox does this generous donator of your castings happen to live in Zwitserland?
If so would you mind if i pm you to make sure i have the right person in mind?
I received some castings a few months ago from a generous person from Zwitserland for my tie wings and i have a hunch he is the person who helped you out with these parts right?

Mr Tox. je suis un tres gran admirateur de vous et de votre travail

I like your models a lot, you are a great source of information, you are very generous, in yours threats, have the pictures even.

I dont like to ask for help, cause I dont post any aport here, but It was to years ago, that all my efforts, are given to the basket.

If you are gentil, I would like, to ask a question please.

I was working a lot whit triks like this: http://la-restitucion-en-perspectiva.blogspot.com.es/
I have my old books from my studies of technical drawing, geometry.....
But..... I crashed against a Wall.

Sometimes, you, talk about math in your investigatios. I read a Lot about photogrammetrie, perspective, lens distorsions, Reconstruction inverse..... (I´m good in maths,), but i can´t obtain any results.
I dont have software tool, no good and good resolution pics......

-Can you tell us what maths are you taliking about?

Of Course, I dont want a math lesson, only what maths must I investigate.

Thanks a lot in advance, and my apologies if my English is not good.

salut mon maitre.

Luis

I've been looking for the navel guns in the picture you posted.Do you know what kit they are from?

Dave

Re: Studio Scale TIE Fighter V3

The naval guns are a mistery to me aswell,...but i've heard the hasagawa 1:450 tirpitz has guns that can be modified to fit.
I've choosen to scratchbuild these parts on mine though.

Re: Studio Scale TIE Fighter V3

OK,since it took me years to find the part your looking for I'll give you a hint.I was able to find the part because a generous member gave me cast of the part uncut. It's from a AMT 1/25 kit,the part is chrome & needs to be cut down.Good news it's a cheap kit & not rare.

Hi Luis,

Thank you for your kind words, your english is very good, don't worry. :)

Well, I use mainly geometry like in the site you linked in your post.

However you did not mention if you were using kitparts or no ?
You can use all the maths you want, if you don't have some ref to scale your drawings, that won't work.

Once you got kitparts (the more and the bigger the better), you can find proportions and size of a portion of a model (where the kitparts are).

There's nothing complicated, really.

Photogrammetry is a whole new problem because to work the best way possible, you need a set of pictures taken for photogrammetry use. Not always possible and you still can get some good results with pics found on internet though, but there're always portions of a model that are not covered. :)

Please let us know what problem you exactly have.
