11th Doctors Sonic (Christmas Special Spoilers)

Hey everyone-

As I've noted in the title, this thread may contain spoilers if you haven't watched the crimbo special yet but...

The 11th Doctors Sonic is broken, and doesn't get fixed! Half of it stays with Gambon's character, and the other half in a... well I won't say, as that would make it far TOO spoliery...

So is this a cue for the Riveresque sonic to make an appearance? Perhaps it signals why CT's sonic was pictured in that props selection picture for the official series...

Hmmmm....
 
Yup ASP- I was pretty sure when I posted that I didn't see it in the trailer last night, you've just confirmed it for me- cheers mate :)

I hope we do get that sonic that CT posted- the 9/10 was soooo much better than the 11 XD
 
Correct, not seen in the trailer at all. It's possible he could be going without one like the 5th-7th Doctors.

What WAS in the trailer was River Song... Crap.
 
well, we did see a strange 10th doctor sonic a few months ago, with what looked like a pen clip on the side, could it be a new one?

Loved her in the Library 2 parter. In the last series she's just become cocky and annoying, not to mention she looks like a cougar beside Matt Smith.

If I hear one more "Hi Sweety" I'm shutting my TV off.
 
I'm pretty sure that when he handed over the half to Gambons character he says something to the effect of 'well, I've got to get a new one anyway'.
 
I guess I'm alone in preferring the 11th sonic over the 9th/10th. I hope we don't take a step backwards and that any changes because of the destruction of this sonic builds on this model or completely re-imagines it.

And yes, River needs to get a modified 9th/10th Sonic, but maybe all of the upgrades we saw were actually repairs of all of the damage it sustained in the first episode last season. Also, don't forget, they DO have a time machine, so if the writers are feeling paradoxy, they just have to take the TARDIS to just moments after the Doctor rests River's sonic down in the library, take the sonic, and return it moments later...after a few months or years of use.

I really like the 11th sonic, For matt smith. I dont think it would have worked with tennant, but I really didnt like him with Tennant's sonic. I really like the design of it, and hope that they keep it for the next season, when he gets a new one. Plus, if its a new design, i think it'll really feel like a cashgrab, plus turning him intothe first Doctor who is shown on screen with more than one style of Sonic Screwdriver (Technically, 8 was the first with two designs).
 
I would have preferred that Smith not change the functioning of the sonic until he got the new one. Pretending to read the readout on the Tennant sonic was kind of silly. If it were made to be used that way, Tennant would have done it at least once. I like both sonics, and I look forward to whatever comes next season, but I do wonder what a change would mean for the companies working on a Smith sonic for sale to the public.

I swear Tennant did this on multiple occasions. And for some reason, I'm getting the feeling he did it in The Runaway Bride. I could be wrong, but I really thought Tennant "read the sonic" after scanning something at least a few times.

I know that he'd look at it like it was telling him what setting it was on as he adjusted it, but I can't recall him ever actually reading anything from a scan.

I have to agree with you. She's a fun character by herself, I'm sure, but I think she's trying too hard to get the Doctor to notice her. I also really don't like where their relationship is going. The "I'm sorry, my love" made me cringe.
 
I think there is a good chance that at some point smith will have a Sonic that looks exactly like a new version on River Songs (without the LED Bar) since he gives that one too her. The River Sonic does not look anything like the Tennent version. I would think if they were going to change the design they would go to the River version to maintain the story line.

I think the current Sonic design does suit Smiths character really well. He is a little to twitchy for the point and click Tennent thing to work well :lol. The whole front end popping open thing really work with the way he uses the Sonic.

I really hope they do not scrap that design.
 
The River sonic is a lot different than Tennant's but to say it's "nothing like it" is a huge exaggeration. It's very similar in a lot of ways.

And yea, I hated seeing so much of River in the S6 trailer. She needs to go.
