11th Doctor Watch

Here's an old ad showing a Timex Electric WITHOUT A CROWN.....these particular watches set in the back.......or maybe the crown fell off in the ad? I have more pictures if you still doubt me. I also was using a Timex as an EXAMPLE of what it MIGHT be as I'm not sure what maker this watch is....electric or mechanical. If anyone can get a pic of the side of the watch it might help a great deal.
Added more pics of "Crownless Timexs".....several other makers used this same simular crownless design where you had to set the hands of the watch in the back.
Timex electrics all have a crown, for setting the time. (I'm wearing one now!)

As Bill Maher said, "I must be wearing orthopedic shoes, because I stand corrected!" :) I still doubt it's an electric, though. Looks too much like a common-or-garden variety winder.

So, I know this has a crown and a different dial, but I think I found a rather close match:
Amazon.com: Timex Men's T20481 Easy Reader Gold-Tone Expansion Band Watch: Timex: Watches
and it's newer cousin:
Easy Reader

Not even close.....the Doc's watch is VINTAGE....not a modern quartz...besides the dial and crown....the band isn't close (even the gold plate color is off) ...case isn't close (wrong lugs and case style)...sorry...but please keep trying. I hope to find this watch at one of my shows soon.....we'll see.

Its a good guess but I for the live of me can't see how you got that name out of the blurry pictures I've seen so for. I've tried enhancing with photoshop as much as I can. So how did you arrive at that name?

The watch is made by Buler, but I haven't identified the model yet.

Watched the Blu-Ray on a 46" screen. It gets pretty clear for a frame or two.

Assuming the crown is the little knob you use to wind or set time, I don't think you can use that as a reference. Speaking as a professional costume designer and technician, watches seldom come from the store in our line of work. They usually come from a box buried in the costume shop accessory shelf, and they're usually dead. You're lucky if the glass is still intact.

Not that this really helps identify the thing. Just a little insight as to why it doesn't work and possibly why it has no crown.

Well until they make TVs that save screen caps for posting on the internet.....uh yeah ....your computer is what I meant. I have a blue ray player on my computer but no blue ray of Dr Who. Maybe someone can post a pic for us.

from my 46" tv? lol unfortunately not and my computer doesn't have a blu-ray player

I found this watch on ebay a few days ago, it's an old Timex. It's not an exact match, but I do think the faces are pretty similar. It definitely needs a new band and I'm thinking of using some gold rub n buff on the case. Opinions?

(It looks way bigger in the picture than it is.)

I am a bit concerned about that, so I am going to do some tests first. I definitely can't afford any kind of plating process, though. I'm having trouble just finding an accurate band, especially for less than $20.

Wow, I didn't know anything like that existed. Still a bit out of my budget for now, though.

The actual watch case seems to have quite a bit of silver showing through the gold, so I'm thinking it's not necessary to get perfect coverage, I just need to get enough gold on there to make it look not silver.

Risu,

Just about any Jeweler has plating equipment and can plate the case for you. Compare the 2 watches and in my opionion I don't see alot similar except both watches have 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and ,12 on them......the number fonts are very different and the Doctor watch lacks minute markers that are on the Timex dial. Keep in mind cheap plating is only several Microns thick and most will rub off quickly with little use and handling. If you want to settle for something "similar" then at least find something in a goldfilled case since vintage watch cases had a better longer lasting plating than modern watches do.
I honestly think your wasting your money on this watch but of course you can do as you want.

It's a small part of the costume that will spend the majority of the time hidden underneath a much more screen accurate part of the costume. In my opinion spending more than $30 on the entire piece would be a foolish waste of money. If I get it gold plated and replace the band, I would actually have to show people the watch up close with a photo of the original and point out the different font to get them to notice. Yea, it's not perfect, but it's a heck of a lot closer than any others I've seen.
