Well, make sure to stay hydrated; you don't want your mazon and leptons levels to get too low.

I thought for sure given all this prop building there would be some sort of mini-sound board widget one could load sounds on for beeps and zings out there by now.

I just found my old Yo quero Tach Bell doggy from eons ago. I'm thinking of taking my Xacto to his tummy to see what he's sound chippy thing looks like. For all I know he's pricelessly valuable on eBay, but if his chip will fit, he gets slit.

Or would that be a larynx-ectomy?

Dude, if you're looking to stick a plushie to pry out a sound chip, I may be able to help. I work at a sleepy little country store in my local mall, an we sell these little plush critters with sound effects built in. You hold one paw, speak close to a microphone in the forehead, and release the paw. If you press the other paw, it plays back your recording. I could get you some on the cheap if you think they'd be worth looking over.
 
Even easier and probably just as cheap: get a keychain digital recorder or a pen digital recorder from radio shack.
 
I guess Dex it it would depending on how big the sound chips were inside the toys. The one in the Taco Bell toy is encased in a little plastic box which is crewed shut with what look like triangular headed screws almost exactly like the ones on the silver knurled flanges on the CO 11th Sonic. I can see in the vents some button cell batteries and the sound chip/card seems to be fairly large. I didn't really have high hopes for it, it was just detritus at the bottom of a forgotten box.

As to the various keychain/pen recorder things, none seem cheaper or less trouble than cannibalizing the CO.

But it's all on my back burner for the moment.

Meh. It's understandable. BTW, I've managed to open up and modify my 11th Screwdriver a bit. I used a flat-head jeweler's screwdriver to remove the triangular-headed screws, then took some Zap-A-Gap, an Exacto Knife, and a pack of Trident gum. I took off the claw assembly on the emitter, cut little bits of plastic the same size and shape of the bottom of each claw, then glued them on. I kept testing the fit, to see if it was too tight, adding or removing/ sanding the "plasticified" glue and plastic bits, testing to see what fit the best. I eventually found a beautiful equilibrium. The claws fit a lot tighter to the bulb now, and the wiggliness has been reduced to nothing. I used the gum package because A: The plastic was *just* thin enough to fit, and B: As you said, it was the right detritus, right time, right place.

There seems to be more wiggle over time with the claws because the spring is always pressing upward ready to be sprung. I'm not sure I want to tinker with mine, but you if you took any pictures others might be interested in how you did it.

I wasn't even sure that those triangular heads were screws. I'd never noticed that there was such a kind of screw head before, but it's not the sort of thing that's ever come up in anything I wanted to take apart.

Probably not that divine, The Key To Time episodes are among the best of the Tom Baker years. Then again it is 10-10-10, so that may have something to do with it...

A lot great names and plays on names from time to time in that era too. Allusions to history and mythology, though I can't say I recall if that applies to Calufrax. Since it obviously came from the mind of Douglas Adams, the answer maybe somewhere in his oeuvre. As I recall there are a couple of allusions to H2G2 in the script.

Actually, those screws are on every McDonald's toy I've ever seen :)
 
Could we possible start a "Derail" thread to talk about sound boards and screws. I come to THIS thread to see a sonic screwdriver WIP. A little respect to the one who started this thread would be nice. Some people seem incapable of actually STARTING their own thread, but rather jump all over everybody else's and.....

Dude, take a pill. Until the OP posts more progress on his metal Screwdriver build, what's the harm in discussing related, relevant topics?
 
Have you read the whole thread or did you just decide to jump in with your 30th post telling me to take a pill?

Seeing as how all 30 of them have been in a sonic screwdriver thread, you interests seem to be very narrow.

I'm also very interested in the progress on this. It was looking awesome, along with your Tennant sonic. I check over at 'Tardis Builders' every so often just in case you updated there but not here.

I agree, it is pretty annoying to see a new post, only to open the thread and it be someone rambling on about nothing related to the thread or build.
