nearly all of my projects start from nothing, and so did this.
this project started with a aluminium foil tube that my mom was going to throw out.
so i asked her if i could have it and this is where i'm at.

the handle is based on the flintlock pistol since i'm going for the steampunk look. i've just glued the handle (made from 2 wire coat hangers :/), and i need to put a case over it to make it look cool.

Looks like you have a good base to start off with, be sure to post your progress, I want to see where you go with this.

i will be working on this soon, but i have got alot of college work to do!

do you think i should us air drying clay :/ or plaster of paris to go over this gun?

I would have thought that the clay would be easier to use then plaster? Alternatively perhaps you could try making a core out of a lighter material (card/paper) and coating it in an epoxy putty, could be more hard wearing?

another question, when do you spray the clay with clear paint?
is it just after you finish sculpting it or some other time?

i'd avoid plaster of paris--its just gonna crumble (im assuming u are trying to sculpt the handle etc ).....I'd try using maybe some pvc for the barrel (gonna be stronger /paint smoother than a cardboard tube)......If u really want to sculpt the entire thing out of clay I would atleast try and use some sort of epoxy putty (hardware store) hardening times usually vary from 5min to an hour so you'll have to sculpt fast or add details later.....I'd recomend a light sanding, cleaning before primer and paint ( im no expert but epoxy usually has a 24h cure time...and air dried clay could take awhile to dry depending how thick it is ) have fun !
