I am building a 1/350th Titanic for my wife.. I put the ship on hold for a while but it's back on the bench and gunning to get done. I will post progress pics.
Did I mention... this model is LIT (something kind of unusual for my models )

There seems to be a stowaway...
I made a 1/350th TARDIS for the Titanic

the TARDIS is now permanently affixed and tucked away in a back corner)
the folder has pics of how it has progressed so far, enjoy

It probably would have floated when I first got it... now it has two holes drilled in the bottom of the hull to allow the wires to pass up into the ship.
I ran the wires through the stands. Actually, I drilled holes to accomodate an ink-pen's main tube and I cut it down (so it wasn't ridiculously long in there) its all epoxied in place..... anyway, I'm rambling.
The length, around 30.5" shes a BIG ship. Here is a pic of me holding it.

this build is making me want to strip down my Enterprise refit and add some lights... (I'm actually planning to do that to my NX-01)

Not sure what all you have planned for this, but I highly recommend you pick up the photo-etched railing set for this model. I used it along with the 1/350 figure set when I built mine, and it really sells the scale of the ship better than the plastic railing that comes with the kit. I lit it as well, and even went so far as to have the red and green lanterns on the side of the bridge lookouts. It was a fun build, but I really did not like doing the rigging, even though there was very little of it. Not sure how people pull off the sailing ships...

Yeah, I have had the PE railing set for a while now... I got it the next payday after the ship arrived.
No kidding, I took one look at the plastic rails and I said "Aside from kit-bashing, this has to go... I simply will not use it."
I may yet break down and get 1/350th figs for it but (it might have been on another forum that I said this) I've been sculpting my own from sculpey.
(pain in the....)

Your optometrist will love you. I think there are two sets of figures, one with general people, and others more defined such as Captain Smith and the strings who played on the deck.

Another slight suggestion: I built a 1/350 scale outline of my home and placed it on the base to give a sense of scale to the ship. It helps to have a real world reference to realize just how massive that ship was.

I have a 1/350th model of Gifu castle.....

I'm should probably do something a little more relatable though (considering I have never even BEEN to Japan).
I have plenty of sheet styrene available (and a hobby shop like 2 miles away if I need anything more :p). I could easily do a 1/350th model of the house I grew up in, I know the dimensions and its not overly large or complex..

The Minicraft 1/350 RMS Titanic is an awesome build.
It took me about 13 months to finish mine and I used fine gauge steel wire for my rigging as well as fine plastic thread for the radio antenna.

GMM photoetched parts are awesome but the 1/350 scale people take away from the detail of the ship because they are flat and hard to paint.
Not to mention that when you glue them to the deck you will end up marring the surface.

Really? I never had that many issues with them. The painting is a bit of a pain due to size, but the paint also added dimension to them. I never had an issue with deck marring either as I just dipped their little feet in super glue and stuck them wherever. But my mileage obviously varied...

Wow you're doing a great job! (y)thumbsup I would love to try that one someday.

If you would like, I have some pictures I took of the 1:48th model that was on display in Mystic CT a few years ago. If you can use them I would be happy to share them.

Feel free to share :D
I got three or four pics of a larger scale (not sure what scale exactly) Titanic at the St.Louis science center a year or two back but I didnt have my digicam with me at the time so they are basically crappy cel-phone pics.

Sadly my digicam died on a recent trip so I'm waiting to get a new one :p

I've always been interested in Titanic, If you ever get a chance to see the exibit "I HIGHLY RECOMEND IT". The 4' High 20' Long replica of the ship at the bottom of the sea is Haunting. C

Here are the pics I got... not the best, and like I said.. Cel-phone pics :p

The lady in the first two pics is the afore-mentioned wife ;)

I know Academy retooled the molds a few years back to make it more accurate, especially near the bow(anchor detail). I'm not sure what other details they changed. It's been probably ten years since I built mine up, and I made what corrections I could find to the original Academy model. I did get to see the large model when it was on display at the Children's Museum in Indianapolis. It was pretty impressive, but the 350 was plenty large for me

The one I have is the older version (I think) When I bought it on ebay, it came with everything but instructions so I downloaded both versions from the TRMA web-site. The newer one had parts that mine didnt.
I have been making the parts out of different things. I have also been using that site to plan additions to the ship (phone boxes and whatnot).

BTW, thanks for sharing your pics (12rogues) :D it looks like the same model (as you said)
It was certainly impressive. I can remember seeing one when I was younger that was a large-scale build of the Titanic as she looks today. (built in halves)

I got a new digicam for my two year anniversary... I'll try to take some new (better looking) pics later on this afternoon.

(not sure when though, my wife got some wild idea about taking her niece to the park and her mom (who can barely walk on her own) decided to tag along)
