Hello again from CES! (my last day today... :cry)
As a big SW fan, I couldn't pass up swooning over the gorgeous new Nikko 1:2 scale R2-D2 wireless remote controlled fully mobile prop replica-slash-DVD projector demonstrated at CES this week. According to the company rep I talked to, they are "on the water" as we speak and heading toward retailers everywhere (for $2,500+, if you have that kind of bread!!! :confused) They featured it in last year's CES too, but it was still a prototype then and needed upgrades before going into production. The models I saw were pristine, shiny production units, and aside from the wall projection (which, sadly, is not HD-ready and fails my own personal brightness and contrast standards), these units roll, turn, stand, rotate their dome, and lean back using a very nice Millennium Falcon remote control - the keypad is push-push released & stowed by pressing the engine lights.
They also had a cool 1:5 scale wireless remote-control R2 that’s a Skype-enabled, motion-sensing, surface-sensing, zoom-equipped webcam that also rolls forward and reverse, turns & pivots left and right, and angle-adjusts. It’s perfect as a nanny-cam, since it would automatically be assumed to be a toy, not a camera! It uses an Anakin light saber remote control, as well as PC desktop command interface, with the image appearing on the screen as the view out of the MF cockpit!
Here’s the official Nikko website for the R2s:

And last year's CNET review:

And if that’s not cool enough, I had the good fortune of being at the booth just as a VERY well-known dwarf to sci-fi fans showed up to admire the R2s: Felix Silla, who played Twiki in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Retah the Ewok in Return of the Jedi, and Cousin It in the original Addams Family series, among his many film & TV appearances:

Enjoy the pics!
