1:1 Temple of Doom Indiana Jones

I took some photos of my 1:1 Indiana Jones today in the garden.

I've worked hard on trying to do a perfect SA Temple Of Doom outfit for many years and I think I'm getting close. A few months ago I finally painted my Howard S. Resin bust and mounted it on a mannequin to display my costume.

Sorry about the gloves, but I'm still working on a pair of Latex hands.

I decided to go easy on the stubble, as a five o clock shadow can easily looks fake when just painted on.

Hope you like my ToD Indy. He's the crown of my collection.

Pretty sweet! Do you know if you can still get the clothing from where you did? Being new to this what does ToD mean? I have most of the costume, the hat, gun, holster belt and holster, gas bag, belt, and a few props. Just always wondered where to find the clothing.

Nice job!

ToD = Temple of Doom. :)

and this is seriously awesome!

Thanks guys!

Brucelee42 - The late Noel Howard worked on the movies and provided the shirt and pants, he sold replicas some years ago, he since retired and unfortunately died a few years ago :( But there are excellent sources for Indy clothes at Magnoli Clothiers, WHAT PRICE GLORY and Halloween Online Clearance Western Movie Character Costumes Stores.

Wested still make jackets and have the arguably best ToD (Temple of Doom) jacket based on Noel Howards screenused jacket, they also make pants and shirts (but many feel they're not too accurate).
You'll find a treasuretrove of info on IndyGear.com: The Indiana Jones Equipment Resource and the forum Club Obi Wan • Index page.

Mr Webber & swirlingvortex7 - Many many thanks :D

thomp - Many thanks! I used alot of time distressing the jacket. Sandpaper, Gaffa tape, warm and cold watershowers, drytumbling, beating it up and dyeing it darker with watered down black leather dye was some of the techniques I used. Distressing leather is fun, it's hard to stop when you've begun.

I'll add to the chorus, this is top notch work and one of the best I've seen! Howard's busts are amazing and your work on it made it doubly amazing!

Looks great! The distressing is quite natural, so job well done!

If you don't mind a minor suggestion about the mannequin, you might consider adding a slight bend to the elbows. He's got a slightly "slouched" look and I think a little bend in the arms will add a bit more life to it.

Great display though and nice paint on the head. I've always felt Howard's early Indy was a strong sculpt.

Tom

Thanks for the links! Did you distress the holster/belt as well? Mine looks very beige and new (as it is)

thegreatgalling - Many many thanks. It has taken me many years to collect all the clothes, but it was fun and I love distressing costumes :).

Yes, Howard's work is indeed incredible, I can't wait to see his finished Indy v.3

TomSpinaDesigns - Thank you, no I don't mind at all :), I have been looking into finding a method to bend the arms, but they're made from fiberglass so I'd have to cut them in half at the elbow and apply some sort of bending mechanism. I havn't figured out how to do this just yet, but it would be great to be able to pose him a bit differently, it would add more life to him.

Simmon M - Thank you! :)

Brucelee42 - No problem :) Yes I bent the belt backwards and hammered on it to give it that used look, the I went over the edges and the buckle with fine sandpaper.

The holster was black when I got it, but I twisted it and bend it for a few hours while watching TV. This gave the leathe a worn look. I also sanded it a bit on the edges. It'll get darker gradually but if you want to change the colour now, I can recommend using leather dye that you can paint directly onto the holster.

Try painting a sample first to make sure you like the colour. You can also rub it with shoe polish but that won't colour it as opaquely as dye.

HeroWorship - Thank you :D I finally got around to taking those photos I've told you about for weeks now :)

Very cool, maybe build the shoulders up a bit as Harrison worked out for all the Indy films and has very broad shoulders.I'd love to own that,so if you ever want to give it away....lol

1:1 Indy's are always so much fun! Yours looks great!

I agree with Tom (that's not hard to do!)... Arm posing does create a slightly slouched and "wooden" pose. Also, recall that Ford beefed up for ToD, and had noticably more muscle upstairs. Your mannequin seems to represent his more slight, ROTLA days.

Also agree that Howard's V1 is a very good sculpt.

Funny though... I myself started with his V2 (with the sculpted in stuble), and found that it has a more "full" look to his face. Like Ford had added a few pounds of "padding" as he crossed into his 40's (as he did when ToD came out). I was after a more ROTLA look, so I then went and bought Howards V1, which is a bit thinner in the face.

Again, great work on your display! It is inspiring!

madmax - thank you - yeah the bust also sits a bit high on the shoulders of the mannequin so he's got a bit of a slouched look, I think it's a good idea to build him up with some muscle. Thanks :)

Cyberman - Many thanks! I can see in your Sig that you've got a great Indy bust, where can I see some pics of it.

PHArchivist - Thank you! Yeah, but the mannequin is pretty solid, just a cheap fiberglass headless mannequin, so I'll have to cut the arms off and re-attach them somehow with some sort of elbow mechanism in order to pose them, but it's definitely something I'm considering, I agree it would add more life to it.

The V1 is indeed a bit thinner in the face, I do recall Howard writing that he actually thinned down his Han Solo bust to make the Indy V1, I guess Harrison had a few more pounds on him when he played Han? Then he slimmed down for Raiders and put on again for ToD.

Quinsen - Thanks :) I do have the Noble Machete - it would look cool he could carry it, although I'd have to find a way for him to hold on to it, it's pretty heavy.

I was able to get my stuff from Magnoli Clothiers; hope this helps:)
