1:1 R2-T0 / R2-G2 Astromech

Thank you guys, I'm glad you like !

Hehe Lee ! You know, I'm buying parts from a UK guy, he's very kind and the parts are nice ! They need a bit of work to fit as they're not all club spec, but with a bit of work they worked well (and since we're modelers, that's a chance, we use to sand/cut parts to get a nice fit). And this way I avoid customs and shipping costs is very low ! :) I'm building this one on a budget and it will cost less than the ROTJ or TESB AT-ST I think !

Ive ordered one of these wonderfull lasercut / vacformed styrene domes, mine should ship next week ! Yay !! :love Too bad they no longer produce the clear one.. I would have love build an R3 unit ! With a ton of greeblies inside the clear dome ! :)

bests.....lee

Looking very nice.

On the subject of R3's, we are making an clear dome variant at the moment:

YouTube - R3 T1 dome Test #"

Just a little test of the dome lights and sounds.

Wow that's awesome !!! I love R3 units ! What did you use for the dome ? The bird dome or the vacformed one that was available a while back ?

Great job on the electronics too ! That's something I'm stuck with :s

Lee, dropped you a PM :)

Nice droid ! I am still deciding if I should build a droid because you have to wait for the run to get parts but I think it will be fun and rewarding.

Thank you guys !

I'm glad you find it interesting !

My dome shipped 2 days ago, I should get it (with lucky !) next week ! :)

How much money have you put onto this so far?
Thanks.

-David

So far... Hmm maybe $500 or $600... But not everything is on the pics I posted !

I wont spend more on the droid shell, next I'll spend my money into electronics to get it R/C and of course I'll have to buy some paint cans...

Thanks TC !

I made some progress :) It looks like it's no longer R2-T0... lol my wife wanted R2-D2 so... A bit sad about that :)

It's scaring how the styrene is yellowing ! I need to hurry to coat it with primer ! It's also very messy (collecting dust for several months). The dome is painted but now the original blue paint is found (well that's actually not even paint lol at least for an ANH Artoo) I'm going to repaint it.

I scratchbuilt a booster cover, I'm actually pretty happy with it (very light), I may build another instead of using resin parts. I'm working on aluminium motor holders right now.

Well next step is an overall cleaning, some putty and sanding job and finish some stuff for the body (pocket vents, power couplers etc).
