    Show off your Borderlands props!

Last year we didn't know about the shoot until after it already happened. It's a shame. As for this year, I don't think they knew there was a shoot, and they didn't have their full costumes. :/ You're right though, it would have been awesome. Thanks! It was a lot of fun. Deathtrap wasn't the...

    Show off your Borderlands props!

I'm always glad to show off our Borderlands group! These were from DragonCon last year and our friends were Maya and Axton at DragonCon this year. I'm the DeathTrap and I made the props for my wife,Gaige. I'll see if I can get my friend to post pics of the nerf guns he modded. There are...

Borderlands 2 Group from DragonCon [Pic Heavy]

Some friends of mine got together and made a Borderlands for our first DragonCon. I'm the one in the DeathTrap. EDIT: The Deathtrap is made out of cardboard that was taped/glued together and coated liberally with resin. I started it two weeks before the con and did the finishing touches the...

    Pyg Mask - Pic Heavy

This is my Professor Pyg mask from Batman and Robin. I sculpted it without ears. The pull didn't come out perfect, but it was good enough. And some sanding and filling: With ears and primer: And some pink: And the finished mask: -Matrix

    Azura's Star wip

I haven't finished this yet, but I also haven't forgotten about it. It is a fun project that has dropped on my priority list because of costumes with deadlines, but will be finished this summer after A-kon. I'm re-evaluating how I want to do the central hub, and I wasn't satisfied with the size...

    Green Goblin Sculpt

So in my late night haste I didn't apply enough vaseline to separate the two halves and they sorta fused into one big plaster mess, so this is gonna take some time to salvage. For now, this is going on the back burner until I have more time. I have other projects that actually have deadlines...

Question about latexing a clay sculpt

Vaseline will dissolve latex. That is why it's not a good idea to use as a... personal lubricant. A thin layer of vaseline should be fine with thick enough latex, but you could use dish soap or some other lubricant/sealant instead.

    Green Goblin Sculpt

I was gonna go to sleep, but then I figured who really needs to do that? So I finished both sides of the mold and I hope to pull the first mask in the next couple of days. I want to give it time to really set up before I do a pull.

Casting plastic and latex from the same mold?

A general rule I was taught, and have experienced, is never cast like into like. Meaning if you are casting soft (silicone or latex) use a hard mold and if you are casting hard (resin, plaster, plastics, etc.) use a soft mold. That being said, you CAN do hard into hard and soft into soft, but...

And the molding has begun! I didn't get as far as I wanted to tonight, but it's still progress. That's two layers of hydrostone.

Ha, hopefully. It's been a little rainy and I work outside, but I hope to start the mold tonight.

    need help with Casting Advice

It depends on what you are making, but one general rule I was taught and have learned holds quite true is never cast like into like. So if you want a hard cast (say fiberglass, plaster, hydrostone, etc.) then use a soft mold. Conversely, if you want to cast a soft material (latex, silicone...
