First Ever Cosplay - Red Hood / Jason Todd

Hello All,

This is my first foray into the world of cosplay, and EVA foam crafting, so I thought I'd document my progress and ask my questions here. I've chosen to start with a Red Hood cosplay. I purchased the jacket, under shirt, and pants from a thrift store; will get the belt and holsters from Amazon; but will be crafting the helmet and body armor myself from foam floor mats.

I've got the helmet at about 85% now:

In Foam:

Mod Podge, Then Plasti-Dip:

Then Krylon Fusion paint for plastics:

Then Valspar flat red spray paint and flat clear coat:

Now I just need to add the eye lenses and the black accent lines on the helmet, and it will be done, and I can move on to the even scarier to make - body armor!

Nice job so far! I've been doing this forever, but my little brother just got into the cosplay world as well. He is wanting to do red hood as his first too so I'll be following along with this thread and if you need help I'm here bud[emoji106]

That's cool. I guess if I have an audience there's motivation to keep this one updated. It's definitely not a direct translation, especially with the bat logo on the back, but I thought it made it just a little more unique, and a little more my-own. Thanks for the quick response!

A little tip for you, if you want to keep constant update without your email being blown up get the app Tapatalk. Alot of us here have it and it's a huge help:)

I have a red hood cosplay that Ive done a few times. issue I always have is getting too hot under the helmet. yours looks hella good, but i didn't know if anyone has tried doing a face shell type helmet (like a spiderman mask but mod the eyes). i think it would also help with the "bobblehead" look a lot of Red hoods have.

So I taped it up, which has been the most difficult part thus far:

Then I sprayed it:

And learned 2 lessons. First, Blue painters tape is no good in this application, there are only 2 spots I used blue instead of green "FrogTape", and in both places it didn't seal completely, and in one spot even pulled up some of the red paint and clearcoat:

And secondly, triple-check all of your tape to make sure it's sealed and covered where you want it to be, or you'll get little lines to touch up like I have :-( :

Now I just have to get the lenses in, and the helmet should be all set.

Other than your paint mishap, that hood looks great. I'm always amazed what people can do with foam pads in this forum.

I'm hoping the body armor goes at least this well. I'm really picky, so not 100% satisfied, but not too bad for my first try, I think.

That's legit. I just ordered the belt and holsters on amazon yesterday, so they'll be in tomorrow, with pics to follow.

And if it helps I can show you how I did the bat symbol on the shirt:).
Costs me 75 cents for the symbol and the shirt was a dollar at a local 2nd hand store.

So I got the lenses in:

and it's looking pretty cool, so the wife decided to wear it to pick up pizza, lol:

I still need to do the body armor, but I figured I'd try on all I've got so far with the gun belt and holsters, love to hear some feedback!

On the minus side, the lenses are definitely not fog resistant, lol.

Man I learned the lesson with lenses fogging up. That was horrible experience lol I replaced them with airsoft lenses. They work great now. I'll find some of my old pics.

Great idea... I tried 3 diffrent helmets either bobble head or long chins. I know it's supposed to be a helmet however for the look it might work
