Rogue One: Diego Luna/Cassian Andor Blaster

About as good of a look as we're going to get without getting in unholstered: 1 & 2

The pistol airsoft gun mentioned above would take a lot of modification pulling the rail off the top (it holds the battery and cuts into the rail below it to run wiring). Any other suggestions for a best starting place to make this blaster?

Really nice pics.

That pic definitely confirms a filed down upper. Although I could've sworn I saw a point towards the charging handle in the earlier screen grabs. I could just be crazy.

It is definitely a railed upper with the slots filled in (or never cut). If the rail protrusions are present then it isn't filed down.

If it's a resin/rubber casting then filling in the slots is trivial. It'll be interesting to see if the hero version is different from the stunt version and which one we've been looking at.

The raw casting doesn't have the rail edges defined and cannot accept a dust cover, FA or CH.

My guess is that it's a lightly modified resin/rubber casting. If there is a hero version that also doesn't have the rail slots and it's made of alu then presumably it was a special made to order (the machining steps to cut the rail slots omitted).

I doubt they'd fabricate it themselves like that - why not make more changes if you're going to be milling a custom upper?

Hey guys, first post! I'm looking into building this blaster, I love the AR Aesthetic. I plan on getting an airsoft upper and lower, as well as the pistol grip, and filling the rails up top with bondo.

I'm having trouble with the butt-end of the pistol though. I've sourced a couple buffer tube plugs that are made for 22lr Ar 15 pistol conversions, but none seem right. Here's an example : https://delta3tactical.com/store/products/ST%2d22-Pistol-Plug.html

Does anybody have better pictures on that end of the gun?

As for the barrel, it looks familiar but I can't seem to place it, has anyone had any luck with that? It'd be nice to have it threaded to fit the standard Ar15 receiver. Finally, does it look like the ejector dust cover has been sealed? It's hard to see for me.

Thanks for the help!

Better than the other toy blasters they have out right now.

Yeah, I was looking forward to that because the sculpt is pretty great on that (it's pretty cool that you use the charging handle to prime the blaster) and it's even got electronics, but I think it's just as undersized (maybe even more) than the Nerf SE-44C. Here's a couple of pictures I took at Force Friday showing it next to the SE-44C:

The box does have a nice picture of his blaster, though (I forgot to get a close-up of it):

Edit: my local Walmart had the toy (the store actually had a good selection), so I took a close-up of the packaging:

And here's some big pictures from the Walmart website and io9:

The nerf blaster is about 3/4 of a real AR size. I can get my whole hand around the grip though, so it's not bad.

The cassian rifle set with the stock and scope, and the Jyn blaster are full size.

I may have found the source gun used for the prop. If you look at the rear of the receiver where the buffer tube should be there is the protrusion on the prop where a stock would slide on, same on a Crosman R73 airsoft rifle

That's a nice find, but the Crosman Pulse R73 has some additional detail the prop does not (keep in mind the R73 picture has been flipped horizontally for some reason):

It's an Ar15 flat-top upper and lower with a slightly modified A2 pistol grip. It looks like they took a mil-spec 20 round magazine and cut it shorter. It looks like the base of the magazine is definitely a filler of some type. The barrel would also be easily replicated. I'm already planning a replica of this. I have a spare polymer Ar lower that will soon be relegated to the spare parts bin. I just ordered a polymer upper receiver. I won't be buying airsoft parts or an airsoft gun to modify for this. I have too many actual gun parts lying around to waste the money on parts that will actually be more expensive than the actual firearm components. I'll just de-mill the parts I'll be using to make the replica. The image below is a polymer Ar15 upper I just ordered from optics Planet for just under $40.

AmericanTactical upper.jpg

The polymer lower I have I actually got for a REALLY cheap price when they did an introductory sale on them. I'm an Ar15 / M16 Armorer so I have a ton of spare parts for repair / replacement work.

The barrel is basically just a threaded pipe screwed onto the receiver threads for the barrel nut. Not a problem either. It should have a decent weight too it so it won't feel or hang like a toy.

Should be fun.

ETA: I've been trying to find the Crosman R73... not available anywhere I can find, not even on EBay.
