Man of Steel Suit build on a budget

Cape is red microsuede from JoAnn's. The foam used is a high density green foam also from JoAnn's. The black undersuit was ordered from Amazon and the fabric is called Yale Matte Glissenette/chiffon from Your Designs item 2m-100. Yes it is a 4 way stretch. The pictures show it as bright blue but it is darker and when viewed from an angle it turns opaque. It goes for 12.99 per yard so pay to play I guess. Now the pictures are after I put the first layer of modge podge on the other pieces. The chrome pieces are a combination of modge podge, puff paint, and many layers of rustoleum chrome paint. The plan is to build from the ground up. So starting point is the chrome muscle suit. So far so good but bear with me because everything is by hand on a budget. Once the foam pieces are complete, I'll be attaching them to the suit using a combination of Velcro and e6000. From there I'll begin work on the middle layer consisting of putting the mesh pattern on the glissenette and forming the over suit.

Did some more work yesterday and this morning. I put a second layer of modge podge on the foam pieces and glued the chrome piece to the undersuit. I made sure to put some cardboard in the undersuit before gluing because I really don't want to accidentally glue it closed. IMG_20160522_061422363.jpgIMG_20160522_061404302.jpg

Sprayed the arm pieces and separated the thigh pieces for extra mobility. Thinking I may have to thin out the arm pieces because I have decent enough arms but I'll wait till the paint is completely dry.

So I went to glue the rest of the foam pieces and well didn't work. Not sure what happened but I know I messed up somewhere. So now I'm testing the method of puffy painting the muscles. Hopefully it'll be good enough to get back on track.

Alrighty a little udate. The foam plan failed not totally but at least when it came to the arms and legs. I got creative though and tried a few things. I applied metallic silver dimensional paint with a brush directly to the fabric and it bled through. When I applied it to a thin layer of modge podge that I put on the suit it held on surprisingly. So in order for the silver paint to stick, a thin layer of modge podge must cover the area that is to be painted. Here's a few shots to show what I mean.1464261752116456961744.jpg14642618087731806013575.jpg
Just make sure you have something between the layers of fabric cause the glue will seep through a little.

Ok bad news. Tried the suit on and it was a struggle to put on. Ended up just scrapping the project. Not to say I'm totally giving up, just trying something new.

Don't scrap it cause you messed up, I've always said that building things is all about learning from your mistakes. You should pick this project up again, and if you do you will know what not to do or how to better it:)

try using an all silver under suit and using black fabric paint to draw the muscles. You won't get the bulk of a muscle suit, but visually it will have the definition.
