Story of Your Life, one among my top anticipated movies of 2016 and its first footage premiered at CinemaCon.

devincf: STORY OF YOUR LIFE: new Villeneuve. Football UFO lands, Amy Adams is a translator brought in to figure out what these weird aliens want

devincf: it looks super great BTW

colliderfrosty: Paramount just world premiered first footage from STORY OF YOUR LIFE at #CinemaCon & it looks incredible. I love smart sci-fi and this is it

slashfilm: Story of Your Life looks awesome. Amy Adams is professor who the government hires to translate first contact. Contact meets close encounters

ErikDavis: Oohh... STORY OF MY LIFE looks good & nerdy: first contact story where a linguist & physicist team up to talk to aliens who've arrived

kristapley: "Story of Your Life" looks awesome. Should be a tasty appetizer to Villeneuve going full sci-fi on "Blade Runner." #CinemaCon

Re: Denis Villeneuve's Arrival

This looks good. Definitely a fan of Villeneuve's work. Prisoners had great atmosphere. Hopefully this will be the same.... and his upcoming Bladerunner.

Re: Denis Villeneuve's Arrival

I really like his work as well. I'm hoping this will be as intriguing and thought provoking as his other films have been, or maybe even moreso.

Re: Denis Villeneuve's Arrival

Looking forward to this, love his work

Re: Denis Villeneuve's Arrival

Charlie Sheen was disappointed to not be brought on board for this.

Re: Denis Villeneuve's Arrival

Aliens arrive, and they instantly think Lois Lane is the right person for first contact. XD

pattonoswalt: (1) 'Scuse my mini-Tweet storm, but I just saw ARRIVAL and my mind is racing.

pattonoswalt: (2) They got Ted Chiang right. They got SCIENCE FICTION right. Thoughtful & poetic but also edge-of-your-seat tense.

pattonoswalt: (3) It uses elements of Spielberg, Tarkovsky, Marker, Lynch, Nolan, Kubrick & even Lovecraft & Bradbury...

pattonoswalt: (4) ...but all in completely new, jarring & beautiful ways.

pattonoswalt (5) In short, go see ARRIVAL. Holy ****. Tweet storm ended, sorry...

pattonoswalt: Be forewarned -- despite how the trailers for ARRIVAL look? It's emotional & I was bawling my eyes out at the end. Just wiped out.

That was absolutely excellent. It's not an action film, it's not typical in many senses. It's not entirely unique but it's pretty close, and takes us back to a different type of Sci-Fi.

I have a feeling the GA won't adore this, but may admit it is a gorgeous looking film. But there's a lot more going on here. I'm still thinking about it this morning.

Smart, emotional and it's been a long time since I've felt actually like "oh ****...cool" in the presence of aliens in a film. They're so normal in our day to day stories and culture now that it was refreshing to be reminded of how "other" another species might be. And as all good sci-fi is, this is about a slightly deeper look at humanity and character.

I'm sure a plot contrivance or inconsistency might become prevalent over time, but I'll need to see it a few more times to find out, as it felt tightly put together.

I haven't seen a film like this in a long time. Deeply moving, thoughtful and reflective on human natures responses to the unknown, its directed with tremendous skill,a clever understanding on what builds fear and tension and ultimately humanity. Its also one of the best uses of a soundtrack I can remember in a movie that supports the film by turning it into something you can feel and experience as much as simply watch. Its also quite the most moving science fiction movie I've seen for decades ,but I don't really want to say any more. I did wonder how on earth they would adapt the non linear nature of the original story and ,whilst they changed a very few elements, they did so extremely well.

"Bladerunner II" is in very safe hands I think.

Arrival

I searched and didnt see a thread on this movie. I saw it last night and thought it was long, a bit talky, confusing, but very good.

Has as anyone else seen it yet?

Not an action film. Really not even a scifi film...well, OK, it is "aliens".
I liked it. My teenage son liked it. My wife liked it and she is not a scifi gal.

No spoilers, but it is a little "timey-wimey" in a way that is actually thought provoking. I need to see it again.
