I just came across this stuff and thought it might be useful to someone trying to get that look. It's just one of many ways to go.

It looks like there's some sort of primer that goes down first on your prop and then you spray it with their nifty blue stuff. and it gets all bubbly; really old and rusty.
They then add some color to it.
I would have liked to see what happens when it's touched.
My method for rusting up Jacob's scales was just spraying webbing on it and then paint. It was sufficient, but not nearly as thick and... well BRUTAL as that stuff. :lol (click picture below for tutorial)
