Scratch Built Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1 FINISHED.

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

I have been looking at a lot of googled ships and such to try and help you with ideas, and some of the coolest designes had no color scheme at all. Just color variations in the plating. It would be an easy way to eliminate a problem with an attractive solution. :)

Ello Peeps,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving comments.

I've googled Concept space ships and looked through hundreds of pictures of some very cool paintings and renderings just to get a 'feel' i'm looking for or an idea of structure and for colour insperation.
I think i'm getting close to a solution, the different shades of panels is part of the look i'm after with colours also incorperated.
But thanks for the suggestion

But anyhoo,
Lot's to get through so this is gunna go fast. There will be a quiz:D

Already shown you on the video but here's the new detail i added on the back bit.

This is how the foil experiment worked, pretty bloomin good.
It's actually going to represent a huge sprung loaded ram.

Here it is in position.

These two pieces go underneath the wings to deflect flow over the opening.

These pieces will cover the screw heads that hold the engines on to the wings

Picture%2520093.jpg

And dry fit in position.

Picture%2520094.jpg

Because of my body 'twist' issues, fitting the rear central flap assembly is going to be a nightmare.

Picture%2520100.jpg

Didn't like the front much, felt it needed some detailing and i needed to hide some big gaps.

Apart from the cockpit and the detail area under the radar dish I think that's most of the building done.
I got my pilot figures in the mail today and i'm a bit disapointed with their quality but nothing some Apoxie scuplt won't fix.
Might start splashing some paint around tomorrow.

Stay tuned

Take care

Slightly off topic, but from my 'real' work (auto restoration), The MMMMMM PRIMER is so incredibly appreciated.

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

You've probably already found them or knew about them, but just in case take a look at Chris Foss work. His use of colour and panelling on his concept ships is legendary.

Ron Cobb I also find a great inspiration, if you're going to go for a more "technical" look to the paint scheme.

I've just got two books from Sparth (Structura and Structura2) which have some stunning compositions.

Cheers

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

Gagster, your build continues to amaze me every time I look at it. Your model should be in the next science fiction film. Of all the space ship models ever built, none of them are any better than what you have created.:cool
I would love nothing more than to see your craft flying through space in a movie like Star Trek or in Battlestar Galactica Blood & Chrome if it ever becomes a series.;)

Cheers,:cheers

Evenin All,

Thank you so much guy's, it mean's alot to me that you take the time to comment.

Sooooooooooooooo, paint.

I've said before, i don't like to paint much because it never turns out how i expect it to, but, so far i am very happy at how it's looking,

I think i'm a little more confident than the last time i made a model, which was about 12 years ago.

I am, in fact enjoying it so far....

But enough of my waffle

PIX

First i had to finish up the tail section.

Picture%2520122.jpg

Picture%2520136.jpg

Picture%2520135.jpg

Added some detail do-dads on the front of the main wings

Picture%2520124.jpg

Finished, i think, building wise, apart from the cockpit interior and exterior. There are some assemblies to add but that's it for the main stuff.

Picture%2520127.jpg

Picture%2520128.jpg

I removed the masking from the hitch assembly drivers.

Picture%2520138.jpg

Picture%2520139.jpg

Picture%2520137.jpg

The back section is going to be the same white mix as the wing backs, but first i lay down X-11 Crome silver, Vallejo Gun then XF-1 Flat Black Pre-shade,

Picture%2520140.jpg

I did the same thing to all the little assemblies

Picture%2520146.jpg

Picture%2520148.jpg

Picture%2520149.jpg

Added some burn marks with the Flat Black on the back wing panels

Picture%2520151.jpg

Gave the hitch assembly drivers a very lite Black & then brown pastel wash.

Picture%2520150.jpg

Picture%2520152.jpg

Picture%2520153.jpg

Future, hairspray and salt, then the White, silver light grey, buff mix.

Picture%2520154.jpg

Hitch Assembly Drivers,

Dry brush, pigment, AK products, drybrush, Finished.

Picture%2520162.jpg

Picture%2520166.jpg

Picture%2520156.jpg

Thats all so far

Stay tuned

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

Stellar work, and it just keeps getting better. I think this is the best example of an original model with an old school Hollywood vibe I have seen.

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

Morning Folks,

Thanks everyone, appreciate you stopping by.

Still weathering and painting the back detail assemblies.

I removed the salt and further chipped the paint with a sharpened chop stick

Then i applied several black and brown pastel washes on all the rear assemblies
slowly building up the effect.

Picture%2520003.jpg

Picture%2520004.jpg

Picture%2520008.jpg

These panels are still a bit lighter than the wing back sections, so i will finish them with my AK products when they are in position.

I wanted to see how much the actuators would affect the overall colour balance of the back section
so i did some assembly work.

Picture%2520020.jpg

Picture%2520029.jpg

I also added the fuel delivery tube.

Picture%2520028.jpg

I then attached all the wires for the actuators, these will be painted and weathered later.

Picture%2520031.jpg

Picture%2520034.jpg

Picture%2520032.jpg

I decided to do some more assembly on the hitch mechanism.
I put on the generator covers

Picture%2520013.jpg

Picture%2520016.jpg

Picture%2520014.jpg

Put it in position to see how it looks

Picture%2520017.jpg

Picture%2520018.jpg

Picture%2520019.jpg

Added the hitch ball and the support arms and most of the assembly for a quick dry fit

Picture%2520040.jpg

Picture%2520038.jpg

Picture%2520039.jpg

Picture%2520035.jpg

I couldn't resist so i dry fit all of the wing back details to see how we were looking

Picture%2520042.jpg

Picture%2520043.jpg

Picture%2520055.jpg

I cannot tell you how pleased i am with the overall look of the back section.

You have a picture in your head of how you want it to look but nothing compares to seeing it all painted and assembled.

A quick video.

Dry fit of back details - YouTube

Yes, that is me giggling, it's the vodka again ;D
No, i do not live in a public toilet that background noise is from my fish tank.

I am very very happy with it.

Next is final weathering with AK products and some dry brushing and maybe another wash or two.

What do you think friends?

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

Cheerio! Lol.

This build is so cool, when you started moving the flaps around I couldn't believe it, I didn't realize they were functional. Superb.

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

So I have to know... Will molds be made and a kit version of this sold? I would love to have one of my own, this thing is amazing!

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

It is amazing. It's the finest example of an original scratch-build I have ever seen! :)
