My mind just went pop! It just keeps getting better... I am glad to know you are feeling better. I wish you health and happiness. :) Please keep up the great work, too. It's always a treat to see your progress!

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

You so nice to be recovered, Ga-san!!
Take it easy my friend.

The cockpit looks amazing. It will go beyond my imagination when it's done.

I love the pilot wearing Polo shirts!

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

All your posts are a feast my man. I love the mechanical style and philosophy of greebling.
Adirable consistency, but you seem to step it up on this cockpit!

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

Truly inspiring build!! Now i have visual proof to the wife on why i should keep scrap parts and old electronics etc!

Got a couple questions for you, and i apologize if you've answered them in a previous post.

What kind of adhesives are you using in your build? The joints look so clean, and what kind of (hmmmm) primer are you using, and how are you applying it? Spray can or airbrush?

Can't wait to see your next batch of photos chap

I imagine you look like a mad scientist with dishevelled hair who never takes a shower and never sleeps, squinting through 600-prescription convex lenses, with an IQ of 200 and infinite creativity.

Evenin all,

Thank you so much for your kind words guys, I realy appreciate you stopping by and commenting it means alot to me so, Thanks everyone.

Well, on with the cockpit today.

It was all about the details, wiring and displays.
The main challenge was the heads up display, i wasn't sure if my idea would work.....?
Lets have a look.
PIX

Did a quick light test of the underwalkway lighting before gluing it in place. I had to open up two new holes either side of the walk way to accomodate the wires. In their original position the walkway wouldin't sit down correctly

Picture%2520003.jpg

Tested the lights in the side pod instrument panels, i will fill the holes with various colours later, the fiber optics will be all flashing, i hope. ::)

Picture%2520006.jpg

Added side details behind the seating area on both sides

Picture%2520007.jpg

Picture%2520009.jpg

Quick test fit

Picture%2520017.jpg

Then i started on the heads up display projector unit. Added heatshrink as a light block

Picture%2520018.jpg

Glued the screen in position on the accessories rail, i covered it in masking tape to protect its surface, it will eventually have a translucent decal applied later, this took me alot of time to get the positioning correct. The LED had to be the correct depth inside the square tube to 'project' a correct size square to fit the screen size.

Picture%2520019.jpg

Fitted two smaller drop down displays/control boxes.

Picture%2520020.jpg

HUD light test.

Picture%2520022.jpg

Projector in position, it works perfectly. I'm so chuffed right now.

Picture%2520026.jpg

Another control box with floppy disc material behind the PE

Picture%2520031.jpg

Ready for masking then on to..........primer.

Picture%2520036.jpg

Picture%2520038.jpg

Picture%2520039.jpg

Picture%2520040.jpg

Test fit with Kiko, my pilot (my father-in-law calls me Kiko, don't ask me why cuz i don't know)

Picture%2520064.jpg

Picture%2520065.jpg

Picture%2520071.jpg

Picture%2520073.jpg

Masked everything up and now, you guessed it, Primer, Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Primer

Picture%2520074.jpg

Picture%2520075.jpg

Picture%2520078.jpg

Picture%2520079.jpg

Picture%2520080.jpg

Thats all so far, hopefully i will get some more up later in the weekend.

Next is the corridor section of the cockpit.

Take care

Looks brilliant, Gag. I'm amazed at how quickly you work and still get such great results.

Hey Mr J. Wocky,

Thanks for the question, a picture speaks a 1000 words.

Picture.jpg

All of the glues have an included brush so that helps with keeping it clean, primer straight from the can, light coats.

I haven't had hair for so long i've forgotten what colour it was, i don't ever shower you are correct, i haven't had a good nights sleep since the 80's, i still have two eye's and infinite creativity in the kitchen

BUT

your IQ estimate is way too low :D

The cockpit is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l.

For many, the cockpit would represent the highlight of model creation. For you it's just part of a much bigger project. I can only imagine the diligence you put in to brushing your teeth ;)

I liked the cockpit being all the random colors. Are you considering any colors for it?

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

Wow This just gets more and more impressive every time I come back to check on it.

I really liked the way it looked too. The awesome primerjob realy blends and pops the detail, but still.
Did you ever consider not to paint a part? (I ask because i like to try something with unpainted bits).

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

I just imagine how much of a PITA that'd be to detail paint now, if it's all glued together. My head would explode after about an hour of retouching.

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

I felt like I just walked into a goldmine!!
Love how you use all sorts of recycled materials for the parts!!
Can't wait to see the completion of this build!!

Evenin All,

Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment guys, it really does motivate me to keep going.

I'm hoping i don't go to mad painting the cockpit, i'm still more worried about the main body colours:(

So... rear cockpit hatch area bit.

Lets have a look, eyes down for a full house.

PIX

Made a door out of a trailer box and a round gun support plate with some other greeblies for the locking mechanism and a bit of PE on the side walls.

Picture%2520081.jpg

Picture%2520082.jpg

Added a square top beam to brace back from the seat assembly

Picture%2520083.jpg

Attached some control boxes to each side wall

Picture%2520089.jpg

Picture%2520088.jpg

Fabricated this half ring to fill the transition and support the side walls

Picture%2520091.jpg

Added the side walls and put these braces on the back side to strengthen the assembly

Picture%2520092.jpg

Fitted the half ring in position

Picture%2520093.jpg

Picture%2520094.jpg

Started filling in the over head are of the corridor

Picture%2520098.jpg

Picture%2520097.jpg

Picture%2520096.jpg

Drilled holes and installed overhead fiber optics for the corridor lighting

Picture%2520100.jpg

Also put two larger diameter fiber optics on the rear door, these will be attached to flashing LEDs.

Picture%2520101.jpg

Obviously these will be trimmed down after painting

Spent a few hours messing about with the wiring and finalising what goes where, the LEDs in the side pods
could be brighter but i want it to be subtle so maybe it will look better when its all assembled and i've cleaned all the holes out in the PE

I will be adding more details in the ceiling of the corridor next, overhead pipes and wiring, so stay tuned

Take care

Gag out:D
