Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: PG 4 Flynn doublet near completion!
THE FABRIC HUNTING HAS COME TO AN END!
I just got simple cotton for the puff sleeves since there is never any visible shine on them on the purple part and I felt a satin would be TOO much against my cotton bodice. I originally wanted a very dull shine, like a bridal satin or something but there was NOTHING in a colour that would work. And I tried to dye a couple types but the poly content was too high and I couldn't get them to hold the colour I wanted. =\
Either way, I got 2 more spools of satin ribbon ( couldn't decide on a shade of pink so I just bought them all. -_- ;; ) which will dress them up a bit, and then the piping around the bodice is also satin so hopefully it balances it out with the dressy and non dressy. AND that new purple I bought for the skirt is more of a dull finish than the uber shiny stuff I have now.
Anyways! WORKING ON THE BODICE TOMORROW! *_* SO EXCITING.
Here's a shot of my final colour palette! ... Well... unless I change out the purple for the skirt with the stuff I got, which I probably will. The center skirt panel is also still too light for my liking...but I don't know if I want to spend any more money or risk waiting to reorder it... so that can be replaced later!
Overall, I'm VERY happy with how close I've gotten the colours! They all work well together and have that weird sometimes pinky-purple, sometimes really purple look to them in photos. But mainly, I'm just happy with how close the matches are to what I've always seen her costume as. *happy and relieved sigh*
The sleeves are crumpled here and so look significantly darker. Though hers are mostly shown as slightly darker than her bodice, which is the route I took, the material definitely isn't as dark as it looks here.
GUH! FINALLY ! I CAN START ON ACTUAL CONSTRUCTION!
Hmm...looking at more references, I think I might go back to one of my original sleeve ribbons... this one is 15mm and though it looks right in person, I think overall on the complete project I'm going to end up thinking they're too wide. Back down to 12 it is!
