Warcraft Lich King build

With the sword finished, I've set to work on the armour parts again. Now the thigh plates, or whatever the proper armourial term would be...

Only missing the gold trim now.

The shape was made with ordinary paper clay, formed around a core of hot glue to give solid adhesion to the foam underneath. I considered thermoforming something over the clay, to keep it from breaking or to replace it entirely, but it seems to hold together. If it breaks, I can always replace it with whatever I shape over it.

SO glad I found this thread, and your facebook page which I have liked like I've never liked before :)

Am in the early stages (ie so far I've made 2 shoulders, 1 skull and some icicles) of a Lich King build for my 12 year old son (because I'm one of those stupid mums who is totally "yeah I can make that! simples!") - and it will be super useful to see how you tackled things if I get stuck along the way.

Everything is looking amazing so far, especially that flipping beautiful Frostmourne!!

Guilty as charged! :D Just drop me a message if you wonder anything in particular! You sure have a lucky son. ;-)

Here's a treat for anyone who want to replicate the fade on - fade off circuitry I developed for Frostmourne and the helmet.

This is what I use in the helmet, with a remote control so I can switch on and off the eyes seemingly with a thought. If you want only the fade circuit, just include the B channel and adjust the voltage to fit your LEDs. You can experiment with different size resistors to get longer or shorter fades.

Dude, your Frostmourne is SPECTACULAR!. I'm making one too, so would you mind if I used your methods and lighting schematics and such? I've gone through your build on your FB page. It's pretty awesome.

All this lighting stuff confuses the living daylights out of me, got to admit, but I do own a soldering iron (which I used to use for jewellery making) and I am always keen to learn new skills, so hey, I'll give it a try. And what's the worst that can happen? I can't actually electrocute myself with a 9v battery, right??

And good luck Strode, with your Frostmourne, we're all in this together :)

Brilliant, thanks, I'm sure it will help hugely as pretty much all I have right now is question marks - I'll watch that when I get home from work this evening

Allright, so in a mad rush of creation I (almost) finished the Lich King in time for Närcon in Sweden!

For your reference, I'm including the WIP shots as well, to see how it was built.

Bracers made from EVA, cereal package and air drying paper clay. Details made by scorching with an old soldering iron.

Polyester cape. Looove this fabric! Absorbs a lot of dried grass, but flows majestically!

Bulk parts were constructed from cereal package and covered in expanding foam. Then carved into shape.

And then covered with lightweight spackling compound, sanded, speckled, sanded and well, you know the drill...

Two days left. Intense work the only thing keeping the panic at bay.

I didn't have time for much bisect work, so everything was covered in black wall paint and mashed with silver.

Some parts (like this cuddly, undead bunny) were sculpted from insulation foam, simply because there was no time to do it properly.

Others were made from clay and quick-dried in the oven.

Had a friend not been there to force-feed me chocolate and put me back on the chair when I missed it, I would not have made it. But with only a few leather straps to adjust and additional rings to attach, we went off to Närcon! Success!
