Hey everyone. I've been wanting to do this for a while and I'm trying to get the ball rolling. I'll soon have access to a fairly high end 3d printer and I've been wanting a decent size (24" or so) lighted model of Destiny from Stargate Universe. Same for The City of Atlantis from SGA, but that'll be a different project. I figure this is my opportunity. I know there are some great 3d meshes out there (not for download though, at least not that I've found. I found one but it wasn't even close to done.) from some sci-fi 3d modelers out there, but I haven't seen one in real physical form (other than the one Joseph Malozzi posted on his blog). My goal is to either create, with my limited but growing 3d (cinema4d) modeling skills, a mesh of the Destiny with good enough detail for a good 3d print which I could then light, or to find someone who has a good 3d mesh that they'd like to contribute. I'm open to any suggestions people have. I have never done 3d printing before so I know there'll be a learning curve, and it won't happen overnight, but I know when all's said and done I'll have something to display that I'll be quite proud of, and when I have everything done, I'll be happy to do kits for others as well.
To get the ball rolling I edited together most of the Destiny shots from SGU season 2 into a video (link below) for reference.
