MOS General Zod Kryptonian Build, slow but steady

One of the six pieces for the pauldrons are done. Obviously no fine details yet.

Four of the six pauldron pieces done. There's a little bit of size creep because of the thickness of the worbla foam sandwich. I'm going to downsize the last piece a bit since it fits quite a bit more inside of the middle one. I will need to do a little more shaping on the points in the middle so they nest over each other more.

OMG that was difficult. Tomorrow I'm going to hopefully bind them to the rest of the costume. Yes, I still need to do some shaping to that big back plate.

Ok I know I said I'd show how they look mounted up but apparently I need longer screws. My album extension screws weren't long enough so here's some work on the details.

Here are the extension screws.

This is the pauldron assembly. Each "rib" is attached to the one outside of it. So the top is connected to the arm cuff and to the middle rib which is connected to the bottom rib. I now have to connect this to the chest plate shoulder cuff.

Ok here's a Pauldron finally connected!!!

This pic is of the strap. It's elastic with #8 3/4" screws and lock nuts. The buckles are called "parachute buckles" by sewology at Hobby Lobby.

This pic is with the ribs down so you can see how they are mounted to the shoulder cuff.

And here it is with the ribs up. I need a way though to keep them up yet do it invisibly. Hmmmmm (no Viagra jokes please).

That's amazing!

Thanks but I get to start all over on the pauldrons. After getting them fitted and trying on the suit they stuck out way way too far. :( I need to really modify my pattern by thickening the vertical and shortening the length while making them more globe-like instead of like a gothic arch.

Jeez, this is incredible. Great, great job thus far. May use a few of these ideas when we start my wife's Faora costume in a few weeks

Thanks. I really recommend Worbla and using it in a Worbla - foam - Worbla sandwich. It has been an awesome building method. The Apoxie sculpt has been tricky to use but great for things you can't easily make from Worbla which will stretch and sag when hot.

OH one more thing... Zod's and Jor-El's costume are completely CGI.

So this is half of the pattern for the new pauldrons. It's an 8" styrofoam ball and after going through the first few scenes of the movie frame by frame the pauldron pieces definitely have a globular base shape instead of a pointed arch (gothic). I think by molding over this ball I will get much more consistency between pieces and might just do two layers of Worbla without foam on these so they are thin light and more crisp on the edges. I left the plastic on the ball and drew on it with a dry erase marker until I had a shape I liked.

Here is the redo of the top rib of the pauldrons. It's more round instead of pointy. It also bends OVER instead of OUT so when adding the middle and lower rib they will nest better.

PAULDRONS DONE! OMG that was a ton of work. They hang a little low off of the shoulder cuff so I just need to replace the elastic strap with a regular strap. I also had to forgo the individual rib articulation. It's too hard to make it look like the impossible CGI articulation in the movie.
