Matt's 1/350 Enterprise Refit

Hello all! I thought I'd share my refit that has taken me just over a year to build. This was a huge undertaking, considering I'm a fairly novice builder. All I can say is, if you don't think you can build one of these, you can. It just takes a lot of patience and time.

If you want to see the entire build thread, it's over at Boyd's (aka: Trekworks') forums at My current project: 1:350 refit enterprise. You'd have to be really really bored to go through all 52 pages, but there it is!

Pictures of the build!

The ship is about 98% complete. I just have a couple of light leaks and some odds and ends to finish up. Considering I didn't even know if I could finish this thing, it's turned out way better than I could have anticipated.

Thanks for looking, and I hope you like it! :)

I bought this kit years ago but have been afraid to start it. I don't want to start then get distracted and never come back to it. Just waiting for the right inspiration and this just may be it.

Very nice work.

Don't be afraid of this kit. It's just like any other model out there. It's just large. That said, it will take a lot more time and patience. You have to really want it. That's the key to finishing it. If you want it, you won't get distracted and never finish.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I suspect down the road I'll build another one incorporating all of the skills I learned from the first one.

I've been watching matt build this for the past several months. His perseverance is amazing considering the amount of wrenches this model has thrown at him.

Great build, Matt!

Thanks Jason! You're right, that thing tried to make me have a nervous breakdown several times.

But I did survive, and have a ship to show for it. :D

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words!

No, they are wired in parallel. If you wire in series, one failure will kill them all. :cry

Very Nice. This whole thing (lights included) came in a kit?

Are you selling these? Where can I get one?

The kit is the Polar Lights 1:350 Enterprise Refit/A. It's available all over for $75-90.

The lighting I used was the Trekmodeler DIY lighting kit. It was $170-ish, and came with wire, LEDs, heat shrink, connectors, switches, a blinker board, and instructions. If I were to build this again, I would build my own lighting system, as it's really not that hard to light up.

If you wanted me to build you one, I would have to charge a lot of cash for it. It takes up so much time that it would be easier for you to build up the skills and build one yourself. That's how I did it. I saw the kit and thought 'I have to have it!'. I taught myself how to model using 4 kits and the internet. And now look where I am!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! It means a lot!
