Maltese Falcon

Oh Newbies...:angel

Hey...

I never saw that movie. How should I know the falcon?!?

I only saw the prop on ebay and in the video with adam. So I can search now google, or I can ask someone of you...

So, I should search google next time, if I dont know something, and then I should talk like I always know about these stuff?!? Should I lie to you?!? :lol

A quick search in the ofdb show me that there are 2 movies from 1931 and 1941. But I must truely tell you, Im not really interested in movies of that time period. Sure, there are some good movies, which are important for the movie buisness and hollywood...

The earliest movie I ver saw was from the 60's. I think a lot of these movies never came out here. The 1941 movie is out, but the 1931 not... And after all the movies were not shown in the tv.

I think its the little difference between the countries. If you ask here, if someone know the movie, max. 10% know it. If you ask in your country it will be more, hm???

And 95% of young people from 18-30 are defineatly not interested in this stuff...

So, I hope you all will forgive me... I am only a little german's kid... :lol:cool

The Maltese Falcon is as well-known as STAR WARS, Wizard of Oz, you name it... all are iconic.

And for not seeing movies from that period, well, you're missing out. :)

And thats the difference... Stars Wars know everyone, I know Wizard of Oz, too. Buf if you ask some people over here, they will know the wizard of oz somehow, but not exactly the movie...

Same for King Kong, everyone knows King Kong, the character; but here most people dont know the movie, maybe only the PJ Version...

Same for Lost World or these kind of movies...

I think many people in the US are more interested in these old movies. I cant explain exactly why, but its like that...

Well... In my opinion in the Us there more interested, I think because you have a lot of studios there, there is more information about new and old movies. The actors are located in the US, and its part of your history, because hollywood IS located in the US. So I think americans know a lot more about movies and more people are interested in movies of the film history...

Just my 2 cents...

Yeah i seen Oz... it's that prison series right!
And i do know King Kong....from that game with the little plummer that needs to jump over barrels and save that chick from Kong right?

:)

Hollywood Casino in Grantville Pa has a Maltese Falcon.
Supposedly a copy from the original.
I will try and get some photos.

I dont know just one of the movies... :confused

Maybe its better that I dont know the movie, if I watch it and like it, I have to get a falcon prop... :lol

I decided to sculpt my own Falcon a couple years ago. I even made a couple plaster copies, and one wax which I used to make a solid lead version. It's 47 pounds

Here's the fired and glazed clay original. It's not perfect but It was my first try and I only just learned to sculpt.

I'd be fascinated to see pictures of Hollywood Casino in Grantville Pa's bird. VERY interested. In fact, Harry Anderson of NightCourt fame has a curio shop in New Orleans and HE also claims to have an original. Until I see photos I'm dubious.

Anyone here live in NO? Wanna go take some pix of Harry's bird as well?

Man, that is just sad.
I watch Maltese Falcon and Casablanca at least every other month.

For the record there where 3 falcon movies made (I have the 3 Disk Special Edition pack)
4 if you want to count the 70's comedy.

The Maltese Falcon (1931)
Satan Met a Lady (1936)
The Maltese Falcon (1941)*
The Black Bird (1975)

The others without Bogart where horrible.

The MK Falcon also came wrapped in a Chinese News paper which was a nice touch.

Horrible is such a personal opinion. ;) While nothing can top the 1941 Bogart version in my book, the 1931 version is, in some ways, more accurate to the book. It isn't BETTER (IMHO), but I don't know if I'd use the word horrible.

I finally got a chance to see Satan Met a Lady about a month ago... OK, I MIGHT use horrible in THAT case!

Patsmear is in New Orleans, I believe. Not sure if he's interested in a replica but he may be interested in meeting Harry Anderson and getting pics of the bird. May be worth a pm.
