Indiana Jones: Belloq in Ceremonial Robes Costume (RotLA)

Hello, everyone!

I'm planning on making an Indiana Jones costume that I don't think anyone else has tried to accomplish: Belloq (Paul Freeman) in his ceremonial robes at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The robes have always fascinated me, especially on his Hasbro figure. But what I plan to do is recreate the costume as accurately as possible. Now, it's not going to be completely accurate, but if you guys have any ideas on how to do certain things, please share them with me. I'd also like to thank Sarednab for making those really cool chestplates, it's a stunning piece! Here's a thumbnail of what I have so far:

As you can see, it's still a work in progress. So far, I made the basic outer robe pattern, the waist belt, and attached chains to the chestplate. The tasks I still need to do are as follows:
  • Make the gold/onyx shoulder clips and attach them to the robe, so the chestplate chains can hook on.
  • Shorten the length of the outer robe and make the holes for the sleeves bigger (it's a bit of a tight fit!).
  • Sew on the sleeves of the outer robe.
  • Sew on a zig-zag pattern of red flowers at certain points on the robe.
  • Shorten the length of the waist belt.
  • Sew the beige inner robe (with the long sleeves).
  • Sew the white middle robe (drapes over the inner robe, and sticks out from the outer robe, without sleeves).
  • Create the turban band (I bought 6 plastic headbands, and I plan to cut a few of them down to the shapes I need, then paint the whole thing gold).
  • Put the turban together with the fabric supplied (light bluish-grey for the turban, white/grey for the straps holding it together).
  • Acquire (or make) the staff.
When all of that is done, I should have a fairly accurate replica of the robes Belloq wore in the movie! I hope all of this goes well, and I will greatly appreciate any help and advice you can give!

(Pretty late) update: I got the staff! Many thanks to Sarednab for making it and shipping it out - it will really compliment the costume!

I plan to focus on making the turban band next.

Made more progress recently! Finished the beige inner robe, made most of the turban band and made the hooks for the chestplate! Unfortunately, the red outer robe is still tight at the sleeves and pulls the long sleeve on the beige one up, so I may have to redo the red robe. Will also trim the chestplate chains to be shorter. More to come!

Hello again! Sorry if I haven’t posted here much - I’ve been very busy with other things. Fortunately, the plastic turban band is done (except for paint)! I trimmed up some thick paper clips to use for the hooks and the metal bracket at the top (a production still is included to show you what I mean), and although it’s not pictured, it has been heated up and molded to curve across my head. I’ll update you again once I get some more custom fabric, as I need to redo the red robe!
