Dude... even as a chick, I'm so not okay with the wonder package on display in that drawing and I'm not even going to comment on the photo. :sick :lol

I thought the top pic was of John Travolta from his Staying Alive days but I too have nothing to say about the bottom pic. :lol

This thread reminds me of the old days of the RPF and that my friends is an amazing thing. I haven't been around here for some time and it is refreshing to see people coming together on a project even if we are just sitting on the fence watching the progress.

Thanks for sharing this with everyone.

Class acts all of you.

How's the costuming coming along? Only have another month left! Maybe this will get her the part in the film Version Of Wonder Woman, she's got my vote!

Apart from just normal schedule issues, we've had a really tough time choosing fabric(s) that we like. It's just not as straightforward as you'd think. We've been through varying weights of spandex, leather, stretch lurex, stretch nylon, etc. looking for a good combination of form-fitting, yet substantive, with interesting surface qualities. But I think we're closing in on it... I'll post pics of the various successes and failures soon.

That sound interesting...:)
Especially from a "creative" point of view... It's exactly like chosing the right material for a movie costume... Somewhat true to the comics, yet "original" and "right" for the wearer... Keep us updated.

Bodice_Revision_3.jpg

Work continues... this is our 3rd pass at the bodice. The bodice's left side is version 2, which was entirely shiny lurex, and the abdominal seam came to much more of a point at the waist. The bodice's right side is version 3, which has mesh paneling along the obliques, and the abdominal seam is straighter, for a more "ab-like" definition.

I like the idea of combining the mesh material with the shiny lurex. My biggest concern here is that there is no gathering at the seams as much as is possible, so it retains a pseudo-spandex look - very form fitting. This fabric is just being held together with pins, so it's a bit "loose" looking. Also, in this mock-up, where I've added the breast plate in Photoshop, I've also darkened the color of the mesh fabric significantly. The actual fabric is more of a maroon, but it tends to photograph pink. If it photographs pink, it photographs pink, so I'm probably going to ask for mesh material which looks more like the mock-up I've done here.

Look out! I bet that soon one film producer is going to ask if they can use it for the movie version :thumbsup :love ;)

Have you decided on the material for the breast plate? Flexible is more important than trying to be accurate to the comic and doing it in metal as in the pictures posted, real metal doesn't look right.

I'm starting to lose my objectivity.

I'm sure most of the 'help' here is more concernd with objectifying Dannica.

I Like the version two ab seam point. I notice that side has 'down trending' ribs realized in Lurex. I'm wondering how it would look with the up trending mesh ribs seen on version 3?

Actually the part of the bodice near the camera looks really interesting...
But if you don't mind I will throw out some other ideas for different "stretch" fabrics that you could also test...

Those if you want a "not shiny" look...

https://spandexworld.com/catalog/viewitem.php?id=737

https://spandexworld.com/catalog/viewitem.php?id=911

And these are just some options for a shiny surface...

Then there are the various "textured" stretch fabrics out there that could give the costume more "depth"... Like the "meshy" one you used on the bodice in the pic...

Of course I'm just throwing out ideas right from the top of my head, but actually I like the look of it so far... So ...
Also I'm not sure what kind of effect you want to achieve with this costume... Do you want a comic book look, or more a "real world" look, or maybe a "movie" look?:)

Mike,

With so many prevalent seams in the construction, you'll want them to accentuate the body lines... I like the reversal in the diagonal direction that you've done on the new side (our left). I'm not sure how far down this goes though - it looks like it may reach the top of the hip. If so, would it make sense to have a bottom panel on the sides that breaks the direction and follows the curve of the hip - almost like adding the bottom panel from the left side of the bodice?

It's tough to analyze the lines out of context of the full figure...

Looking good so far!

Also, it might be worthwhile to consider a slightly darker maroon or burgundy. Unless you're going for a comic book look, the darker colors help to lend a real-world gravity to these costumes. It doesn't have to be DARK, but if you look at the red in the maguire spidey suit or the cloaks from 300, they read as red but are shaded darker (I feel a bit out of place talking colors with you knowing your eye). Thinking back to your original thoughts on doing this right and having her look the part at the level she'd like to be, how it photographs should be a real consideration. If it photographs pink, that's how a lot of people will likely see it. Some of the links Ramiel posted have pretty nice, deep color to 'em!

Yes, the direction of the "ribs" was flipped in version 2 - they went "up" instead of down. You want them to go down so they match the angle of the eagle's wings... great comments and suggestions (going to look at your ideas, Ramiel!) And yes, we've mostly used darker fabrics 'til now, for that very reason. Looks more.. legit somehow.

Keep 'em coming!

Well, the belt's gonna be there... I think if they continue down, and are interrupted by the gold waistband it should look fine...?
