Fabs homemade Indiana Jones Props

I made an Idol base out of a wooden bowl. The pattern I drew on by hand on the sides and with ruler an circle on top and dremeled it out. Afterwards I painted it with spraypaint, acrylics and oilpaints.

Here‘s my sun god wall art from Raiders made out of foam. I transfered the face from a print out and than layer by layer took away the material with an scalpel and sanding paper. The stone structure is done with crumbled aluminum foil and it‘s painted with lacquer and acrylic colors. The nose is a bit big which I might adjust in the future. But for now I‘m quite happy with the result.

Next up the Palace of Pankott wallpainting. I blew up a screenshot, transfered the image onto a sheet of canvas and than painted and weathered it with acrylic colors.

I had an old gong lying around and thought this could be a cool Club Obi Wan Gong. I tried to model the dragon and the mountain with clay. Molded them in silicone and casted them in resin. Afterwards I glued them on with epoxy and painted everything with chrome paint. Weathered with acrylic and oilpaints.

I made the Henry Jones Sr. hat. Got some houndstooth pattern tweed fabric, traced the pattern on it and sewed everything together. Afterwards I dyed it dark brown. I even had a liner from an old hat. It‘s wearable and good enough for the display . :)

I love working with foam and this looks fantastic. However, use caution with what you display with foam. I made a foam stone to display my resin Idol with, however I switched to Relic Makers Idol, and it literally pulled itself forward and I came home to a faceplanted Idol on my desk. Too heavy. It sank into the foam until the weight of the piece tipped itself forward causing it to drop. Luckily nothing was damaged.

In the long run I'm planning on making a mold and cast it in plaster. I myself am not a big fan of foam  But it's great to easily make a great display piece. But for me the weight is missing. I like to have a feeling of realness when I hold my props. Not always achievable but I'll die trying.

And finally I made a Grail.
1f605.png

3D printed and then filled with resin for adding weight. Then covered with Car-filler for an authentic look and feel. Sanded into shape but not super nice to get a handcrafted look. Painted with acrylic paints. Gold leaf and fuller's earth worked directly into the paint on the outside. The inside is spray painted and then the gold leaf attached. After everything has dried "worn off" the gold leaf with fine sandpaper and then sealed it with a matt clear coat. And again fuller's earth onto it for a dusty look.

So this took longer than I expected, sourcing the parts. It's not entirely accurate and I will upgrade it over time but it looks realistic and I really like it. It's the tracing device for the beacons from Crystal Skull which was excibited some time ago. The box is made of wood (needs to be metal in the future). The display in the middle is from a vintage voltmeter. The buttons on the left are old Xbox joysticks. Some parts from china and the label is inveted by me as I couldn't read the original.

Update: When you hit the top switch the lamp lights up now.
