Interest DaveP's 40th Anniversary Luke Hero (Interest Thread)

Yup looks much better. Did you do anything differently? Color looks good now.
I shook the can after it was warmed in the water. I forgot to do that I think on the first go around. Then took some fine steelwool to knock down the shine.

Oh ok interesting. I’m able to paint in my basement at room temp so I don’t warm up the can, but I shake it for a solid 3 minutes.

But yea looks great.

**UPDATE**

Hello there.

I’ve spent some time today catching up on messages, so figured I’d take this opportunity to send out an update to all those on my mailing list.

I figured I'd post it here too for anyone following the interest thread.

Apologies for the radio silence this past couple of weeks!

As you probably know, I’ve been running slightly behind schedule with fully finished commissions from March.

March’s I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L and Yuma commissions shipped out a couple of weeks ago:

The finishing touches to my V1 Hero commissions have been a bit of a struggle to get over the finish line however...

This week has been spent on final QC and cleaning, whilst packing and shipping out.

This alone has taken longer than expected as I am prone to agonise over every single fingerprint.

The good news is, these commissions are all now finished and should be shipped out by the end of this week!

I managed to take some beauty shots of one of these commissions in between rain showers.

This one is an on-set / production replica with copper rails and idealised control box:

The last of these will have shipped by the end of this week. (y)

I am in contact with all those who have outstanding orders from April, but here's a quick update on April orders:

Small, non-hilt (DIY) orders have already shipped. This includes reveal board DIY kits as well as any stand-alone stencils and Tri-Rings, etc.

I must stress that this month I have taken far fewer orders than in previous months. So, catching up and sending out the remaining DIY hilt kits, and fully finished commissions will not require the time that it has taken to get Feb/March
orders out to people. Both of these months ended up being particularly large batches, whereas April has been fairly tame in comparison!

DIY kits will be ready to ship out around the end of next week. The vast majority of parts for these have been prepped already, so they should be ready to go very soon!

As for fully finished commissions, bodies have been prepped ready for painting, which will commence as soon as DIY kits have shipped.

Based on the VERY low quantity I have to work on from this month, I see zero problem in getting these completed within the 6 week promise (if not sooner!).

To all those who have placed an order this month, thank you so much for your patience during these past few weeks!

I’m happy to say that I am finally getting caught up, and that going forward, orders should all ship out within the time promised.

Now some news for May:

**I'll be closing for the last week of May/first week of June for a family vacation. **

Orders that were placed in April will have shipped by then, but as It’s not a full month I won’t be delisting-stock and re-listing on the first of May like usual.

Instead, I've adjusted stock levels on the store to an amount that can be reasonably completed before I go away. **I WILL be delisting everything / closing orders (except maybe smaller items) on May 10th** to allow me to work through existing orders before I go away.

I'll then be opening the shop back up on the 5th of June. I hope this makes sense. It’s my aim to have NO outstanding orders whilst away, and would rather avoid taking pre-orders for June until I'm back in the workshop. This does mean that the remaining places currently available on the site are VERY limited and that from May 10th to June 5th, the store will be closed. Any order placed between now and May 10th will be completed and shipped by May 20th. Stock levels have been limited to allow for this. (y)

If you have any questions or requests in the meantime, please do get in touch.

Thank you again to everyone for your support and patience. As always, it's an honour to work on these for you all.

All the best and MTFBWY-A

Dave

**UPDATE**

I was going to wait until the 1st, but figured I'd announce over the weekend, so a couple of days early...

For the remaining stock for May, I've added a "May the 4th" discount code to my site: MAY4TH

This will give you a discount of 10% at checkout.

It's not a huge discount, but I already try to keep the prices as low as possible.

It's the least I can do though, to show my gratitude for your incredible support sinse launching the site.

I considered offering free shipping, but figured that wouldn't be much of a discount for customers here in the UK. So settled on 10% for all items, which works out as more than international shipping on fully weathered commissions.

I still plan to close orders on the tenth with it being a short month for me, but the code will be valid for all orders placed between now and then.

There are limited places listed for each commission too, as I am still not fully caught up with April's orders (getting there though!). So when the places are all taken, the next time I'll be listing places is June 5th.

All orders placed before closing the store on the tenth will be completed before I go away at the end of May.

Thank you again for your incredible support over the past few months everyone!

MTFBWY!

Dave

**UPDATE**

Hello everyone.

This is a general update going out to everyone this morning.

First up, apologies for my radio silence yet again, and for any delay in responding to messages or enquiries. I am working flat out to ensure that progress is made on existing orders.

This does mean that correspondence takes a bit of a hit unfortunately, but please rest assured that I WILL get caught up and respond to messages eventually.

I do just have to prioritise moving forward with the physical work for the time being.

Thank you so much to everyone who placed an order this month using the May4th discount!

I hope you all had a great May4th!

The store has now been de-stocked and orders are closed for the rest of this month.

This will allow me to concentrate on getting through existing orders in time for my family vacation at the end of this month.

The store will be re-stocked on the first of June.

EXISTING ORDERS:

I am currently working on the finishing touches to April’s Fully finished commissions. All other orders from April (including full hilt DIY kits) shipped out at the beginning of this month.

Work has begun on May’s orders too, with very small orders, such as Tri-Rings, etc, having been sent out already. Preparations are underway to get May’s DIY kits out as soon as these last few fully finished commissions from April are sent out early next week.

As I mentioned in my previous update, I go away at the end of this month, so I am aiming to get ALL existing orders out to people before then.

I only listed a very small number of commissions this month in order to achieve this, all of which have now been claimed.

I just wanted to share with you my targets for the next week or so:

  • April’s Fully Finished Commissions – Shipping Tuesday 14th
  • May’s DIY Kits – Shipping Friday – 17th
  • Mays Fully Finished Commissions – Shipping Monday 20th

The above dates are very much achievable, as each batch consists of just a handful of hilts and work is already underway across each of them.

I am working to a much more detailed plan of action for the remainder of this month of course, with each day allocated to smaller tasks which will enable me to achieve the above major deadlines.

Painting is done on Aprils commissions, and it’s really just a case of final assembly and the application of finishing touches.

I have also been working simultaneously on prepping the parts for May’s kits and commissions.

I will need to drop off the radar once more however and apologise in advance for any lack of communication over the next week or so.

I have taken down all stock from the site for now whilst I work through existing orders.

I will be getting beauty shots of finished hilts as they’re completed and will post some of these when time allows.

I’d just like to say a huge thank you again to everyone for your patience and support. As always, it’s an honour and a pleasure to work on these for you!

FUTURE STOCK:

This next part is quite important…

My stock of Yuma / I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L / V1 heroes is beginning to run low. It is absolutely my intension to order more, and to continue offering these in the future.

** The stock that I list in June will be the last of these for a while however. **

This will allow me to concentrate on the launch of my latest V2 and V3 on August 1st.

Both of these are extremely labour intensive, and the initial launch will certainly require my full attention.

With this in mind, I’ll be listing the last of my available Yuma / I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L / V1 Hero stock on June 1st, which I’ll be working on throughout June and July.

Both my V2 and V3 will then be made available on August 1st.

Once the initial rush for V2 / V3 is over and things have begun to settle down, I do intend to order more parts for Yuma / I.S.Y.H.C.V.A.N.L / V1 Heroes, and will hopefully have everything in stock simultaneously (probably towards the end of the year). I will then alternate between the various versions going forward, or possibly stock a couple of each version every month. From a practical point of view, alternating is preferable.

My latest V2 / V3 models and drawings are very nearly ready for quotations **I will not have a price until I’ve received these**. I’m really excited to be revisiting these once again and look forward to sharing more details and renders in the coming weeks!

For now though, I’ll get back to it!

Wishing you all a great weekend and I’ll keep you posted as things progress! By this time next week, I should be working on the finishing touches to May’s fully finished commissions.

All the best and as always, MTFBWY!

Dave

Am i misremembering or did you have a plan to offer fx capable hilts? Will these v2/v3 be static? I’m sure you’re asked this a lot so sorry to be a broken record

Hi Al.

You're not misremembering. I do have a hollow Yuma / ISYHCANL / Hero design that I'll be releasing at the end of this year. The hilt itself is ready to go, but it's intended to accompany my crystal chamber, which is still a W.I.P and requiring some more development time.

It was always intended to be after the V2 / V3 though. I think I originally said Christmas time 2024. If I can manage to get a bit of down time between now and then to finish my chamber design, I should be able to keep to that hopefully. (y)

Hope that sounds ok.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks for such an informative response! I can’t wait to see how the crystal chamber progresses. It’ll be kind of historic to have the most accurate ROTJ saber combined with electronics.

**UPDATE**

Hello there.

I'm just writing a quick update before taking a couple of weeks off on family vacation. I'm actually writing this on the plane and hoping to post it when we arrive at our destination.

Just to recap my previous update for those who have joined the mailing list since then; it was my intention to finish all of April's commissions, all DIY kits AND all of May's orders of fully finished commissions too, BEFORE having to leave.

I DID manage to complete all of April's commissions as well as all DIY kit orders that were placed this month. I also managed to finish and send out smaller commissions such as control boxes and finished reveal boards.

Unfortunately though, packaging got the better of me and didn't leave quite enough time to get May's finished commissions completed and sent out before my departure.

There are just so many individual parts to the kits!

I have been in contact with all those who are waiting and I would just like to say a huge thank you for being so understanding and supportive. It is a very small number and work is well underway on them. Bodies are prepared and masked up ready for painting. And most of the other various bits and pieces are ready to go too. So I plan to have these finished the first week that I'm back.

As I mentioned in my previous update, I will be listing the remaining stock for Yuma, ISYHCANL and V1 heroes on the first of June. I will need to prioritize finishing May's commissions, before moving on to these last few, which I'll be working on throughout June and July.

From August first, I'll be working exclusively on V2 and V3.

As of writing this, there are just 6 X V1 heroes still available.

I must stress that once these are gone, they will not be available again until the end of the year.

I'll be listing the remaining stock on June 1st at midday (UK time).

Due to stock being so limited I am having to reserve my remaining parts for fully finished commissions, and won't be able to offer DIY kits this time around unfortunately. I'll be listing full commissions only. Apologies for any disappointment.

DIY kits will be available again at the end of the year, or shortly after then.

This approach will allow me to focus exclusively on getting remaining commissions completed over the next couple of months, before moving on to V2 and V3 beginning in August.

Unfortunately, this means that I'm not able to offer stand alone control boxes either, as these are all now needed for complete hilts. These will be available again too eventually.

I WILL continue to offer both DIY and fully finished reveal boards, as well as DS II brass and Tri-Rings throughout June and July as I can easily replenish stock for these.

I am considering a temporary pause on these from August however, as the V2s and V3s will require my full attention.

I hope all this sounds ok. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

I'd just like to thank everyone who has taken part in this latest run of Yuma / ISYHCANL / Heroes! The response has been incredible, and I'm eternally grateful for the support and encouragement of this awesome community!

For those who have not managed to get one this time around, they will be back! It would just be too much to focus on all Luke variants in one go.

Signing out for now, but please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

All the best, and as always, MTFBWY!

Dave

Pure craftsmanship! Got the MoM this time around, and again, I couldn't be happier. Having this alongside the ISYHCANL is just perfection.
Huge shoutout to Dave for his amazing work and quality customer service. I'll recommend anything and everything done by him.
Thanks again, mate!
